Trump says no need for additional debates with Harris

The aftermath of last week's presidential debate was marked by a host of headlines touching on possible polling bumps, one-sided fact-checks, and podium height, but there was one critical question millions of Americans wanted answered, namely whether there would be a repeat performance.

On Thursday, former President Donald Trump indicated that he had no plans to participate in another debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, as CBS News reported, taking to his Truth Social platform to let the country know.

Trump says no

The former president was emphatic in his social media post, writing, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” referencing his Tuesday night clash with Harris and his June battle with Joe Biden.

Trump continued, “When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, 'I WANT A REMATCH,” suggesting that he emerged victorious, and there was no need for another round.

That same day, Trump continued to address the topic, saying, “Because we've done two debates and because they were successful, there will be no third debate. Too late anyway, the voting has already begun.”

Harris for her part, seemed eager to hit the stage with Trump once more, evincing a newfound confidence that had previously eluded her.

“I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate,” the vice president stated.

Final answer?

Despite what initially appeared to be a definitive decision on Thursday to eschew additional debates, Fox News reported on Friday that Trump may have adjusted his position somewhat in the intervening hours.

After a California press conference at which he spoke to reporters for an extended period of time, Trump was asked what conditions would convince him to participate in another battle with Harris.

“I wouldn't need anything. I could do it tomorrow. I've done two debates. Everything was crooked in the second one,” Trump added.

He went on, “I did great in the debates, and I think they've answered everything. But maybe if I got in the right mood, I don't know,” seemingly leaving the door to another confrontation ajar.

Though Harris has already expressed disinterest in taking part in a Fox News-hosted debate, Trump suggested that he would potentially be open to such a scenario, provided that network personalities Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier were not tasked with moderating duties.
