Trump Senate ally bailing to run for governor

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has decided that one term in the Senate is enough.

In an election year when the GOP needs all hands on deck, he is going for a bigger office, deciding to run for governor of Alabama.

Getting Trump’s endorsement

Donald Trump loves his sports figures, and in the state of Alabama, Tuberville’s name is big, as the former head coach of Auburn University.

During the 2020 race, everyone was curious if Trump would endorse his former Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, or the football coach, and Trump chose the football coach.

Trump posted, “Tommy was a terrific head football coach at Auburn University. He is a REAL LEADER who will never let MAGA/KAG, or our Country, down! Tommy will protect your Second Amendment (which is under siege), is strong on Crime and the Border, and truly LOVES our Military and our Vets.

“He will be a great Senator for the people of Alabama. Coach Tommy Tuberville, a winner, has my Complete and Total Endorsement. I love Alabama!”

Tuberville wins in walk

The race was not even close, with Tuberville winning 60.2% to 39.8%.

After winning the race, Tuberville stated, “America should not be led by a permanent ruling class, but citizen servants who serve a few terms in Washington, D.C., then go home.”

He added, “I’ll be guided by our shared values, conservative values, and I will always vote for the majority of people in the state of Alabama and not for a party like Doug Jones did.”

Jones was his Democrat opponent, who was also the incumbent in the race.

Running for governor

One term is enough, however, as Tuberville is now going after the governor’s mansion.

He stated, "I'm doing this to help this country and the great state of Alabama. I'm a football coach. I'm a leader. I'm a builder. I'm a recruiter, and we're going to grow Alabama."

"We’re going to bring manufacturing to this state. We’re going to stop this illegal immigration. We’re going to make education better again, and we’re going to do everything possible to make sure our kids... stay in this state and work.”

I really hope he delivers on that education promise because Alabama, after having GOP governors for years, is sitting next to last in the country in education. The GOP has been given quite a bit of rope by the people of Alabama, but I am not sure how much longer that will lost if they don’t start reversing this trend.
