Trump Suggests That He Would Consider Pardon for Hunter Biden

Donald Trump stunned conservatives this week when he was asked about a pardon for Hunter Biden.

Trump stated that a pardon for Hunter would be on the table, which surely sent his supporters into a tizzy.

Would You Pardon Hunter Biden?

I have reported on this issue in the past, and I even stated that I thought Donald Trump might offer a pardon for Hunter to try to calm the waters. I could totally see Trump and Biden making a backroom deal to offer a pardon to halt the rhetoric and attacks against Trump, but that will never happen as far as the rest of the Democrat Party is concerned.

If you recall, Trump tried to offer Democrats an olive branch after the 2016 election. The rallying cry of that election was “lock her up,” yet when Trump took office, his first act at his inauguration luncheon was to ask everyone to stand up and applaud for Hillary Clinton. And what happened? Hillary slapped his hand away, and Dems have been on the attack ever since.

Trump even commented on this, stating, “I could have gone after Hillary. I could have gotten Hillary Clinton very easily. And when they say lock her up, whenever they said ‘lock her,’ you know, they’d start, 30,000 people, ‘lock her up, lock her up.’ What did I do? I always say take it easy, just relax. We’re winning. Take it easy. Take it easy.

“I could have had her put in jail. And I decided I didn’t want to do that. I thought it would look terrible. You had the wife of the president of the United States going to jail. I thought it would be very bad if we did that. And I made sure that didn’t happen, OK? I thought it would be bad.”

Yet, when Trump was asked if he would pardon Hunter, he responded, “I wouldn’t take it off the books.”

Trump then added, “See, unlike Joe Biden, despite what they’ve done to me, where they’ve gone after me so viciously, despite what — and Hunter’s a bad boy. There’s no question about it. He’s been a bad boy. All you had to do is see the laptop from hell — but I happen to think it’s very bad for our country.”

Not the First Time

This is far from the first time this idea has been floated, as former campaign adviser David Urban suggested that Trump should consider this back in June.

At the time, Urban stated, “Listen, what I’d like to see happen is I’d like to see President Trump come out with a statement saying, ‘Look, if Hunter Biden commits to a program of sobriety, inpatient or maybe outpatient, shows up, keeps his sobriety, I’ll pardon him.’

“I’d love for President Trump to say that. It would be a magnanimous offer on his part, shows humanity and, and really flip the tables on the Democrats.”

Joe Biden has always maintained that he would not pardon Hunter, but Kamala Harris has not even been asked the question. Having said that, I would all but guarantee a Hunter Biden was discussed when Joe Biden stepped down and gifted Harris the nomination.

The Fallout

Going back to the Trump-Hillary olive branch, we cannot forget how betrayed his supporters felt when they saw Trump literally applauding Hillary after “lock her up” was the cornerstone of Trump’s campaign. This time around, it was the same thing, only directed at Hunter and Joe Biden.

This time around, however, the repercussions were far more severe, as Trump’s congressional surrogates have spent tens of millions of dollars investigating Hunter and Joe Biden. If Trump does not want to see Hunter in jail, it is a fairly safe assumption that he does not want to see Joe Biden in jail, so was this all theater?

Here is the problem with this. First, this olive branch will not work because Democrats will never stop coming after Trump. Second, the message being sent here is that if you are an elite, there are no repercussions for your actions. Third, Trump is putting all his surrogates in Congress at risk because Dems can then claim they wasted four years investigating Hunter and Joe Biden, and Trump just wiped all that time, effort, and money away with the swipe of a pen. Had Trump not hammered this over the last four years and had Republicans not spent four years investigating this, I would say go for it, but now a pardon would just make everyone look foolish, so I cannot get behind it, and I would suggest Trump reconsider his options.
