Trump to Reassign ICE Officers to Flood Sanctuary Cities
Finally, the country took immigration seriously, and the American people made it clear they wanted illegal immigration under control.
Trump heard them, and he has already proclaimed that thousands of ICE agents who were turned into processors under Biden will be sent back out into the field.
Pulling Agents
It is no secret that immigration has been a complete and utter mess under the Biden administration.
Reports have surfaced over the last four years that agents who would normally be working in the field were reassigned to the border. There were also reports that personnel usually tasked with monitoring the border were serving as nothing more than paperwork processors and taxi drivers for illegals.
One agent was livid at the time, stating, "You're using skilled and trained special agents who are trained in criminal investigations and law enforcement tactics to guard people and to hand out food to individuals and help with processing.”
The other challenge for these agents is that the cases they were working on when they were doing their actual jobs have been put on hold. The agent continued, "So, when you pull an agent from an active investigation, and you put them somewhere else for 30 days, that affects that agent’s ability to continue working in that case. And for HSI a lot of times, we have just one agent in that case.
“We don't have multiple agents assigned to it. So, someone else can't pick up that slack once somebody has to go down there. So, your case just gets put on standstill, put on pause, but the criminal activity doesn’t. That continues.”
Changes Coming
Right out of the gate, Donald Trump named former Acting Director of ICE Tom Homan as his border czar.
Homan made it very clear that once the new administration comes in, things are going to change and ICE agents will go back to doing what they are supposed to be doing, working cases.
Homan has vowed to “flood” sanctuary cities with agents that will be tracking down illegals and sending them back over the border.
Homan has also warned Democrat governors that if they are going to help, they better get out of his way, stating, “If they’re not willing to do it then get out of the way — we’re coming… , so if I have to flood agents to the sanctuary cities to get the job done then that’s what we’re gonna do.”
Getting the Numbers
During the Biden administration, several key border agencies experienced dropping morale and mass resignations, which left departments like the Border Patrol and ICE short-staffed.
While the agents are excited to return to their normal jobs, they are concerned they won’t have the numbers to carry out their new tasks.
To that point, one agent stated, “The personnel have to be there to carry out these ‘mass deportations.’ Right now, a lot of units have been depleted.” My guess is that we are going to see a massive recruitment effort by Homan to get the agency up to par, then we are going to see an unprecedented crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants.
