Trump wants ‘activist’ judge impeached
Donald Trump’s executive orders continue to get challenged in the courts, and unfortunately for Trump, they are usually landing in front of liberal judges.
Roughly 90% of the injunctions against Trump have been from liberal judges, and now Trump is firing back, demanding impeachment.
Impeach Him
After Trump had more than 300 people deported to El Salvador, Judge James Boasberg ordered the planes turned around and returned to the United States, regardless of the fact the plane held noted gang members of some of the most dangerous gangs in the world who had entered this country illegally.
I had posted before I did not understand how this order could even be challenged considering the circumstances, and it was the straw that broke Trump’s back.
Trump posted on Truth Social, "This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges' I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!
"Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator who was sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama."
Too Harsh?
Now, calling for the impeachment of a judge for a single ruling is a bit ridiculous, but there is some truth to the fact these rulings appear biased when you look at the percentages of judges making these rulings against Trump.
Even so, I have continued to say to allow these cases to play out and take note of the judges who consistently have rulings overturned so the GOP can request a judicial review in an effort to have these judges removed from the bench.
Chief Justice Roberts also called for Trump to back off the impeachment talk, stating, "For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreements concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose."
Again, I know it is not a popular opinion right now, but I do agree with Roberts. This is why we have an appellate court, as well as the state and federal Supreme Courts. It is also why we keep track of rulings to hold these judges accountable. We may not like the system, but that is what it is for now. If we want to change it, tell Congress to do something other than make TikTok videos and hold podcasts.
Breyer Breaks Silence
It is not often you will hear a liberal justice defend a conservative one, but the comments by Trump got the attention of retired Justice Stephen Breyer.
Breyer backed the statement by Roberts, adding, “You decide what you think is correct in the law. Period. You don’t want a judge to be looking over his shoulder to public opinion.”
Breyer than added, “He’s trying to explain to the people of this country how the legal system works and how it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work by impeaching a judge because you don’t like his decision.”
The problem here is that we have legal “experts” giving the public the wrong information, as though Roberts has the power to change this. He does not. Congress has two judiciary committees that can, however, and that is where the change needs to take place. We may not like how all this is playing out right now, but it is the process. Speaker Johnson recently stated that the House Judiciary Committee is looking at options, and I would suggest a panel to immediately review executive orders or even streamline any challenge to go directly to the Supreme Court. One thing is for sure, with activist judges on the bench, all we are doing is wasting time and money in the lower courts.
