Trump wants charges filed over escalator ‘sabotage’
When Donald Trump was making his appearance at the UN General Assembly, he and our First Lady were on an escalator when it suddenly stopped.
Melania was lucky to keep her balance, but aside from her possible tumble, this left both the president and first lady completely vulnerable.
The late-night circuit has been roasting Trump over his call that this was sabotage, but Trump is not backing down, now demanding an investigation and charges to be filed.
The General Assembly
Let’s keep in mind that Donald Trump has had at least two assassination attempts against him that we know of.
When that escalator suddenly stopped, Secret Service failed to cover Trump, leaving both him and Melania wide open for an attack. Point being, this was a very serious issue.
Former Secret Service Agent Rich Staropoli broke it down, stating, “Somebody’s got to make a call. We’re going to stand here like a bunch of morons, like we did in Butler. Or are we going to scoop up the first lady and POTUS and either go down or go up?”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also commented, stating, “If someone at the U.N. intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately.”
Joking
Trump joked about this and the teleprompter going down during his speech, but it was no laughing matter.
Rumors had already started to circulate that someone in the building stopped the escalator on purpose to make a point of Trump cutting some UN funding.
I am also in the midst of a Facebook joust with someone who claimed they saw that it was Trump’s team that accidentally stopped the escalator (I told them they read it on the internet, so it had to be true).
Were it just one of these, I could say it was just by chance, but the fact that multiple breakdowns happened only to Trump, yes, I think something is very fishy here, and it is no joking matter.
No Joke
After a day to sleep on it, Trump stopped joking, posting, “A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday — Not one, not two, but three very sinister events! First, the escalator going up to the Main Speaking Floor came to a screeching halt.
“It stopped on a dime. It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first. It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or, it would have been a disaster.” Trump then stated, “The people that did it should be arrested!”
Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN secretary-general, claimed, “A subsequent investigation, including a readout of the machine’s central processing unit, indicated that the escalator had stopped after a built-in safety mechanism on the comb step was triggered at the top of the escalator. The safety mechanism is designed to prevent people or objects accidentally being caught and stuck in or pulled into the gearing. The videographer may have inadvertently triggered the safety function described above.”
Maybe it was just a coincidence, but as Jethro Gibbs said, Rule #39.
