Tulsi Gabbard and husband accused of 'cult' ties
Tulsi Gabbard is NOT facing an easy path to be confirmed as Donald Trump's Director of National Intelligence.
In fact, MSN reports that Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana recently said that "Tulsi Gabbard is likely in the most danger of not getting confirmed by the U.S. Senate."
As if Gabbard wasn't struggling enough already, things seem to have just gotten worse for her. Tusli and her husband, Abraham Williams, are now being CHARGED with being tied to a controversial "cult."
Senator Kennedy's comments
Even before the cult ties became a big concern, Tulsi Gabbard had a difficult path ahead of her. It made sense, she spent YEARS as a Democrat before joining the fight with Donald Trump. Liberals are furious at her for jumping ship, and Republicans are concerned about why she would have been comfortable siding with Democrats for years and years.
In addition to her party swap, Gabbard has faced severe criticism for opposing funding Ukraine's war against Russia, leading to her being called a Russian asset and a threat to national security.
Senator Kennedy said:
"I expect most if not all of [the nominees] to be confirmed. Why? Number one, the president’s dug in like a tick. He wants these people. But number two, you’ve got to remember these confirmation hearings matter. If a nominee acts like a complete meathead or starts screaming like he or she is part of a prison riot, people are gonna say ‘woah, we need to take a second look.’ But short of that, I think most if not all will be confirmed. The one most on the bubble, as you know as well as I do, is Tulsi Gabbard."
Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz accused Gabbard of being a "Russian asset." Democratic Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth said that Gabbard is "compromised" and is unable "to pass a background check."
"Cult" allegations
Separate from her political views, Tulsi Gabbard is also under scrutiny for her marriage to Abraham Williams and their alleged "ties to what some describe as an 'alt-right' cult offshoot of the Hindu Hare Krishna movement."
Abraham Williams is a camera operator and cinematographer with several IMDB credits. Williams and Gabbard met in 2012, six years after Gabbard's divorce from her first husband, Eduardo Tamayo.
Williams was a freelance photographer at the time and shot commercials that were used by Gabbard during her campaign to become a Hawaii congresswoman in the U.S. House of Representatives. Williams's mother Anya Anthony was the manager of Gabbard's district office in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Tulsi Gabbard and Abraham Williams both identify as Hindu and are believed to belong to an offshoot of the Hare Krishna movement called the Science of Identity Foundation (SIF). Critics of the "cult" of SIF say that it has "intolerant views towards women, gay people, and Muslims and seeks to gain access to a back door of mainstream politics." The followers are also accused of treating their reclusive leader, Chris Butler, as some sort of all-powerful deity.
It's unclear exactly how involved Gabbard and her husband are with the religion, as the two mostly keep that part of their lives private.
Still, there are enough questions about SIF that it is being used as a reason to question whether Tulsi Gabbard is fit for such an important leadership position in America's government.
