Vance says it may be time for United States to walk away from peace talks

When Trump was running for office, he stated he would probably have the Russian-Ukraine war over before he took office, but surely on day one.

Well, we are nearly 100 days in, and now the administration is saying that it could be time to walk away from peace talks.

London Talks End with No Agreement

Officials from the US, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, France, and Germany met this week in London to try to negotiate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.

After the talks ended with no deal, Kyiv Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybih stated, “We reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to peace efforts led by US President Donald Trump and our willingness to move forward toward a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace. We will continue our regular dialogue.”

While that sounds like a positive spin, the overall sentiment was anything but, as all parties seemed frustrated with Russia and Ukraine for various reasons.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s statement made it quite clear the president is getting frustrated with Zelensky, stating, “Unfortunately, President Zelensky has been trying to litigate this peace negotiation in the press, and that’s unacceptable to the president. These should be closed-door negotiations.”

Trump Takes a Shot

Trump has had an ax to grind with Zelensky for some time now, once blaming Zelensky for the war itself.

Trump just went off on him again, posting to Truth Social, "It’s inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy’s that make it so difficult to settle this war.

"He has nothing to boast about! The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole country."

I find it rather ironic that Leavitt just blasted Zelensky for debating this war in the media, and there is Trump publicly blasting Zelensky rather than picking up the phone to tell him in person to knock off the statements.

Vance Issues Ultimatum

JD Vance made it seem quite clear that the United States is fed up and about to walk away from the peace talks.

He stated, "We've issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and Ukrainians, and it's time for them to either say yes or for the U.S. to walk away from this process. We've engaged in an extraordinary amount of diplomacy, of on-the-ground work.”

The response by Russia was to conduct its deadliest attack against Kyiv in months, with the death toll still rising in that attack.

Trump has to get this settled, and they can ill-afford to simply walk away. We need the minerals from Ukraine and the only way we are going to get them is if this war comes to a conclusion. One way or another, Trump needs to force his hand and get this over ASAP. He surely cannot afford to just throw his hands up and say he is done with it.
