WI judge indicted for helping immigrant evade ICE
Democrats were outraged when authorities arrested a Wisconsin judge for having helped an illegal immigrant evade ICE officers.
A grand jury has now decided on her fate, and it is not good for the judge, who was just indicted.
Helping an Illegal
Judges have been taking significant criticism as “activists” for pushing back on Trump’s executive orders, and I have defended them to an extent because I know many of Trump’s orders are breaking existing laws or disregarding the Constitution.
I say that fully supporting his immigration agenda, while also encouraging Congress to take up these orders with legislation, where they can actually do something about.
I have also stated that while most of these judges are making the right rulings, we do have activist judges on the bench, and Judge Hannah Dugan is one them.
Dugan has been accused of misdirecting ICE to another area while telling an illegal immigration and his attorney to use a more restricted area to leave the courtroom, which, for a moment, enabled the illegal to avoid capture (he was later caught in a foot chase).
Dems Upset
You have to appreciate both the irony and hypocrisy of Democrats crying about a judge being arrested when they celebrated the arrest of a former president, calling the arrest of the judge the weaponization of the DOJ.
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) stated, “Make no mistake, we do not have kings in this country and we are a democracy governed by laws that everyone must abide by.
“By relentlessly attacking the judicial system, flouting court orders and arresting a sitting judge, this president is putting those basic democratic values that Wisconsinites hold dear on the line.
“While details of this exact case remain minimal, this action fits into the deeply concerning pattern of this president’s lawless behavior and undermining courts and Congress’s checks on his power.”
The Grand Jury Disagrees
Wisconsin is a true battleground state, and I firmly believe if there was no real evidence to support the charges, a grand jury in that state would have let her off the hook, but that is not what happened.
Hagan was indicted this week by a grand jury, with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stating, "She will be held accountable for that.
"We shouldn’t be able to allow that in this country, and we need to make sure that even judges are held accountable for their actions.”
I hope she is found guilty, but something tells me the judge would never throw the book at her, as we really need to see. Activism on the bench is a no-no, so I am really hoping a Trump-appointed judge draws the case so we see an actual sentence imposed rather than a slap on the wrist, as I suspect Hagan would receive if found guilty.
