WI Supreme Court rejects AG attempt to block Musk $1 million giveaway
On April 4, Wisconsinites will head to the polls to elect their next Supreme Court justice.
As a way to bring attention to the race, Elon Musk was offering a $1 million giveaway that did not sit well with the state’s attorney general, but the Wisconsin Supreme Court just rejected the filing.
Important Race
The race in 2023 was the most expensive Supreme Court race in the state to date, with the balance of the court at stake.
For the first time in 15 years, liberals had control of the court, but after a liberal stepped down, conservatives have a chance to flip it right back.
If they don’t, liberals are likely to keep control for at least a decade, as it will be very hard to get back two seats anytime in the near future.
The race pits liberal Susan Crawford against conservative Brad Schimel, and this race has already surpassed the 2023 race in terms of financial commitment.
Musk Gets Involved
I have been pretty vocal about my disappointment in the GOP and RNC for not showing Schimel more support in this race, with the exception of Elon Musk.
Musk has been pouring money into the race, including a $1 million giveaway.
When Musk first announced the promotion, he stated it would be for anyone who voted in the race, but he later changed that to people who had signed an online petition to stop activist judges.
Even with the change, the Democrat Wisconsin Attorney General filed a motion, asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to block the giveaway.
Can’t Help You
This weekend, it was announced that the Court unanimously rejected the filing by the AG, which was shocking considering liberals held the advantage on the Court.
Musk has been in full attack mode, citing the fact that last justice that was elected ran on blocking alleged gerrymandering with district maps, stating, "And if the (Wisconsin) Supreme Court is able to redraw the districts, they will gerrymander the district and deprive Wisconsin of two seats on the Republican side. Then they will try to stop all the government reforms we are getting done, for you the American people."
Including Musk’s giveaway, the race has generated more than $80 million in donations, making it the most expensive judicial election not just in Wisconsin, but in the history of our country.
As noted above, while early voting has already started, the election itself will be held on April 1, so we will know late Tuesday if conservatives get the win or the lack of commitment by the RNC and GOP cost us another seat.
