New York Post: Harris $25k Homeowner Grant is ‘Equity’ Giveaway in Disguise

What do Democrats do when they want to win an election?

They start to give things away, of course.

And that is part of Kamala’s new plan to drop $25,000 grants on new homeowners.

Give Them the Money

The New York Post’s Betsy McCaughey did not have very nice things to say about Harris’ new plan, believing what most of us believe in that this is nothing more than Democrats using a taxpayer-funded bribe to secure votes in an election.

Harris wants to provide a grant of $25,000 to help new homeowners cover their down payment.

Roughly 80% of Democrats favor the policy and even some Republicans are buying into it, I guess tired of seeing all these so-called freebies go to liberals.

If this were going to all families, you might be able to make an argument for it, but that is not the case.

In reality, this grant is Harris trying to buy minority votes, as she is hoping to close the ownership gap between black and white families.

For instance, in 2019, Harris stated, “We must right the wrong — after generations of discrimination — and give black families a real shot at home ownership.”

Harris claims her values have not changed, so we have to make the assumption that her grant is to fulfill that promise.

Harris cannot do this on her own, and would need Congress to sign off on such legislation, but giving this to only minority families will be a tough sell.

If you remember, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) proposed a bill like this to help all first-time homeowners, but David Dworkin, president and CEO of the National Housing Conference, objected to the legislation benefitting anyone but black homeowners.

He claimed, “A tax credit for all first-time homebuyers is going to expand the racial homeownership gap.

“We are simply providing first-generation homebuyers, largely people of color, what white first-time home buyers have been receiving for years in the form of the ‘Daddy Down Payment’ loan — family assistance that is almost never repaid.”

Since Harris does not do press conferences, the American people are left to themselves to figure out how Harris would implement such a plan if she winds up winning this election.
