Biden Administration Rocked by VA Scandal as Term Ends
A report regarding a massive scandal within the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) has rocked this administration in its waning days.
Even though Joe Biden only has a few days left, Republicans are demanding that Biden hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The Scandal
According to reports, the House Committee of Veterans Affairs has received a report outlining allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and inappropriate relationships within the agency.
The report stated that the allegations have surfaced from the Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Tennessee.
The House committee has verified that it has documentation proving that these allegations were proven to be true.
Now, Republican House members are demanding that the Biden administration hold these people accountable.
Demanding Action
Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs Mike Bost (R-IL) broke the news this week about the scandal. He stated, "The sexual misconduct, harassment, and inappropriate interpersonal relationships that were allowed to persist at the Mountain Home VA facility are disturbing and disgusting.
"If these allegations are verified, without question, these men and women have no business serving veterans in East Tennessee, and this should have never happened."
The investigation was launched in July after whistleblowers first made allegations. Bost has since demanded information on multiple occasions from VA Secretary Denis McDonough.
The committee stated that even though the investigation continues, the powers that be in the VA that were aware of this scandal are still employed.
VA Responds
The VA responded to the news, stating, "As soon as allegations of misconduct at this facility were uncovered, VA reported the matter to the proper authorities, began our own investigation, and informed Congress.
"We continue to fully cooperate with all proper authorities in this matter, and we hold our employees accountable to the highest standards of care and respect. Whenever employees fail to live up to those standards, we take immediate action – as we have done in this case."
Bost has insisted that he is not letting this go until everyone involved is held accountable, stating, "As we continue to get more information from the Department on why this behavior was allowed, who committed these actions, whether those involved are still collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck from VA, and who is ultimately responsible, I will continue to fight tooth and nail to urge the Biden administration to hold everyone involved accountable.”
The allegations are beyond disturbing, yet we have yet to hear a direct response from the White House on this matter. This is another thing that Donald Trump will need to clean up as soon as he takes office.
