Donald Trump Says Lara Trump Unlikely to Get Rubio Senate Seat
With Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) getting tapped as Trump’s Secretary of State, once Trump takes office and Rubio is confirmed, it will be up to Governor DeSantis to appoint a successor.
After Lara Trump resigned her post at the RNC, the rumors started to fly that she was getting the seat, but that does not appear to be the case, according to Donald Trump.
I’m Interested
I have to admit, I was stunned when Lara Trump resigned her seat as the co-chair of the RNC.
She had only been in the position for about a year, so I thought she would continue to serve for at least two more years, then possibly pivot to an elected office.
Instead, she stepped down, but it then seemed clear why she was doing so. At time, regarding the Rubio seat, she stated, "Certainly, we’ve all had the opportunity over the past nine years to fully involve ourselves in politics, to understand the American people, what they want, and we’ve all been residents of the state of Florida now for over three years. If that’s something that’s put in front of me, it would be a true honor."
Elon Musk’s mother apparently liked the idea, posting, "The Senate is an old man’s club. We desperately need a smart, young, outspoken woman who will reveal their secrets.”
Trump Says Unlikely
I think Donald Trump would love to have Lara Trump as a Senator in Congress, but he does not expect it to happen.
Let’s not forget, Trump and his campaign took a lot of nasty shots at DeSantis, including some rather disgusting personal shots, and I think there is still some bad blood there.
Secondly, a real argument can be made that DeSantis has far better candidates than Lara Trump, and Donald Trump knows this. To that point, when asked if he thought DeSantis would give Lara Trump the seat, he responded, “No, I don’t. But I don’t know. Ron’s doing a good job, that’s his choice — nothing to do with me.”
To me, that sounded like Trump trying to bury the hatchet, but the only way I see Lara Trump getting this seat is if a major deal is brokered for Donald Trump to give something back to DeSantis.
The Reality of the Seat
There is a lot to think about regarding this seat, and it all revolves around DeSanti’s future.
If Trump has a successful term, there is no doubt that JD Vance will be the favorite in the 2028 election, so where does that leave DeSantis?
I don’t think DeSantis will run if that is the case, but I can guarantee you this man is not done with politics. So, my guess is that Ron is working the wire, trying to find someone that will fill that seat until he can take the seat himself.
Rubio’s term is set to end in 2026, and so is DeSantis’ term as governor. He will be termed out at that point, so if DeSantis can find someone to agree to give up that seat in 2026, which would allow DeSantis to run for that seat as an outgoing governor, surely making him the monster favorite, I think that is the route he will go here.
