Trump DOJ puts 2 Adams prosecutors on leave

Donald Trump appears to be doing everything he can to get New York City Mayor Adams off the hook in his bribery case.

The latest move was to put two of the prosecutors working on the case on leave.

Adams Charged

Late in Joe Biden’s term, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was charged with soliciting illegal campaign contributions and permitted inspections to be overlooked to open a new skyscraper in Manhattan.

At the time of the indictment, FBI Assistant Director James E. Dennehy stated, “Today’s indictment serves as a sobering moment but also sends a powerful message to every elected official in this country: public service is a profound responsibility, and it should be a noble calling.  When that’s perverted by greed and dishonesty, it robs us of our trust.  This is a reminder that no one is above the law or beyond reproach.”

DOI Commissioner Jocelyn E. Strauber added, “The indictment unsealed today alleges that Mayor Adams abused his power and position for nearly a decade, obtaining personal benefits and illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals, and others, giving them undue influence over him.  As charged, this illegal conduct compromised his integrity as an elected official and New Yorkers expect better.  I thank the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI for their commitment to partner with DOI to root out corruption in City government.”

Adams tried to play this off as a politically motivated prosecution because he spoke up about the immigration issues, but this investigation was launched long before Adams ever threw Biden under the bus. It has always been my stance that Adams took that position to get the attention of Trump in the hopes of pardoning him if he won the election.

Drop the Charges

Yes, everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but the evidence against Adams is pretty significant and reminiscent of the evidence against Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), who was just convicted on corruption charges. At the very least, Trump should have allowed this case to go to trial, but that did not happen.

Trump took the bait from Adams, however, which resulted in Trump stating, “I know what it’s like to be persecuted by the DOJ, for speaking out against open borders. We were persecuted, Eric. I was persecuted, and so are you, Eric.” That is absolutely ludicrous because as I stated, the evidence against Adams is strong, and I believe he is corrupt and got caught with his hands in the cookie jar.

In early February, before Pam Bondi had been confirmed, the Trump DOJ ordered prosecutors in the case to file to drop the charges against Adam, which was done, and the filing is now awaiting the decision of the presiding judge.

The filing argued, “The pending prosecution has unduly restricted Mayor Adams’ ability to devote full attention and resources to the illegal immigration and violent crime.”

Put Them on Leave

So, we have an allegedly corrupt Democrat mayor who is now saying he will work with Trump on immigration, so that is apparently more important than allegedly taking illegal contributions, bribes, and putting the people of New York City at risk by opening a skyscraper without all of the security and safety inspections needed.

That is apparently true because in an effort to kill this case, two of the prosecutors on the Adams case have now reportedly been put on leave. Andrew Rohrbach and Celia Cohen were reportedly walked from the US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York last week. Those two were placed on leave not long after two other prosecutors who were working on the Adams case, Hagan Scotten and Derek Wikstrom, were placed on leave last month.

This is inexcusable, in my eyes, and I am sorry, but I cannot justify allowing Adams to walk on his alleged corruption simply because he says he will work on Trump on immigration issues in New York City. In the overall scheme of things, he is a meaningless cog, and I believe he played Trump to get this exact outcome.

So, seriously… is there anything anyone can do that is over the line that would not be excused as long as they are willing to work or back Trump? I thought we were the party of the rule of law, yet we have now released January 6 defendants who violently beat police and are dismissing a case of an alleged corrupt Democrat. It may not be a very popular decision, but there is simply no way I can ever get behind these actions.
