Schumer reverses course, says he will now support spending legislation

Well, it did not take long for Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to cave.

Just a few days ago, Schumer was atop his soapbox saying he would recommend that Dems block the GOP spending bill to keep the government open, but now he says he will support it to not give Trump the gift of shutting down the government.

Schumer Reverses Course

Schumer had been adamant that he would not vote for the spending bill earlier this week, then everything changed.

On Thursday, Schumer went to the floor of the Senate, stating, "I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country to minimize the harms to the American people. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down."

He later added, "I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option."

As I am writing this report, the Senate is about to cast the vote, so we will soon find out if Schumer still have influence in the party or not.

Screaming Match

Schumer reportedly held a closed-door session to try to convince Democrats to back the spending bill, and while he claimed his party was unified, the noises in the room told a far different story.

Schumer came out of the meeting stating, "Our caucus is unified on a clean April 11 CR that will keep the government open and give Congress time to negotiate bipartisan legislation that can pass. We should vote on that.”

After reports surfaced that Dems were screaming at each other in the room, one source stated, "They’ve been debating what to do, and there’s been people who feel strongly on both sides.”

This is what sickens me about our politicians… they are the ones grandstanding here, but the American people spoke pretty loudly last November when they elected Trump to office, so they need to put their personal feelings aside and do what they were all elected to office to do.

Pelosi Sticks Her Nose In

I just read a report about Pelosi reaching out to Democrat Senators to block the spending bill, and I could not help but laugh at her inability to let go of power.

Pelosi also posted her position on X, writing, "Donald Trump and Elon Musk have offered the Congress a false choice between a government shutdown or a blank check that makes a devastating assault on the well-being of working families across America.

“Let’s be clear: neither is a good option for the American people. But this false choice that some are buying instead of fighting is unacceptable.” She later added, “Democratic senators should listen to the women. Appropriations leaders Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray have eloquently presented the case that we must have a better choice: a four-week funding extension to keep government open and negotiate a bipartisan agreement.”

Did she just womansplain? I love the fact that Pelosi is forced to sit on the sidelines here. I am just baffled at why the fight is being picked here when in a few weeks, the battle for the big spending bill will take place. If I were on either side of this fight in Congress, that is where I would be drawing my line of battle.
