MSNBC’s Symone Sanders: Time to leave the Democrat Party
The last few weeks have not been good for Democrats in the media, and they are starting to crack.
The final straw appears to be Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) caving on the funding bill, which led to Symone Sanders, a former Harris and Bernie Sanders staffer, saying she will no longer be a registered Democrat.
Time for leadership change
When the Dems failed to block Trump and Republicans, there were plenty of calls for change.
Heading the pack was radio host Charlamagne tha God, who called for sweeping changes in the party.
Charlamagne not only called for Schumer but also suggested that House Minority Leader Jeffries (D-NY) should also leave.
He stated, "Per usual, the party of inaction, the Democrats, have failed to protect the interests of the American people."
"And you know why Dems suck at messaging? Because they’re never talking about nothing. And they do nothing. So, guess what? To me, they all got to go."
Time for AOC to take over
Behind the scenes, people were pushing not only for Schumer to step down from leadership but also for his outright removal from office.
For instance, a recent New York Post report found that Democrats were talking to AOC to try to get her to primary Schumer in 2028 when his seat is up for re-election.
This all started after AOC called out Senate leadership, stating, “I think what we need right now is a united Senate Democratic Caucus that can stand up for this country and not vote for cloture and not vote for this bill.”
I still don’t think that will happen, however, as there is now way AOC will risk that six-figure check in a toss-up race. Having said that, when Schumer does retire, I would imagine that AOC will be the heir apparent to his seat.
Sanders is done
The meltdown on MSNBC this weekend was epic, especially when you consider they were all calling out Democrats for not doing what they were criticizing Republicans for attempting to do just a few months ago (shutting down the government).
When the shutdown was averted, Sanders went nuclear, stating, "I'm pissed. There's actually little that the Senate Minority Leader can say, and the 10 Democrats that voted with the Republicans can say, to appease somebody like me. I'm going to change my registration to Independent."
Former Democratic lawmaker Donna Edwards added, "The reality here is there was no message, no strategy, and, at the end of the day, no leadership. And this is really a black mark, I think, on Chuck Schumer. You cannot signal on Wednesday that you want to fight, and then on Thursday, you cave. And so now Republicans know that all they have to do is play Democrats, and it will work."
My opinion, based on polling, is that Schumer got it right, but Democrats are so focused on hurting Trump that they were willing to cut off their nose to spite their face… and I love it. The more infighting and lack of clear direction in the party, the more leash Trump and Republicans get to implement our agenda.
