Trump seeing conservative pushback after endorsement of Senator Graham

Ask me what I think of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and I will have to take a deep breath before answering because I have never liked the man, who I believe is very much the definition of the DC Swamp.

Yet, Trump, who said he would drain the swamp, continues to be friends with Graham, and has once again endorsed him for office, much to the chagrin of the MAGA faithful.

Trump endorses Graham

I had zero doubt that Trump would endorse Graham again because, as I noted, Trump has chosen to keep Graham in his inner circle despite the fact that Graham is neck-deep in the establishment.

Trump announced the endorsement on Truth Social last week, posting, "Senator Lindsey Graham is working incredibly hard for the Great People of South Carolina, a State I love and WON BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024!"

Trump continued, "Lindsey has been a wonderful friend to me, and has always been there when I needed him. As the Chair of the Senate Budget Committee, Lindsey is fighting tirelessly to Grow the Economy, Lower Taxes, and Eliminate Government Waste.”

Trump added, "Senator Lindsey Graham has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. Everyone in South Carolina should help Lindsey have a BIG WIN next year!"

Graham roasted

I could not help but laugh when I read that because Graham has stuck a few knives in Trump’s back.

Let’s go back to 2015, when Graham called Trump a “race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot.” Graham later added, “You know how you make America great again? Tell Donald Trump to go to hell.”

One Republican group responded to the endorsement on X, posting, “Lindsey Graham sold his soul for power. History won’t be kind to him.”

A pro-Trump supporter named Mila Joy added, "Trump cannot be serious. Someone, anyone, needs to primary Lindsey Graham."

GOP pushes back

The outrage on social media was just the beginning, as there are also Republicans who were not happy about Trump backing Graham.

For instance, General Flynn, who served as Trump’s National Security Adviser in the first term, stated, "Not someone I can get behind. I’ll go to the gates with you but I won’t take one step forward with him.”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who Trump wants to see primaried, added, "I don’t begrudge anyone for an endorsement, but Senator Graham is objectively the ideological twin of Liz Cheney.”

Graham’s campaign responded, "Senator Graham shares President Trump's frustration with Rep. Massie. Rep. Massie has become the most reliable vote for Democrats on critical issues opposing President Trump's agenda."

Graham reminds me of Mark Levin, who was a clear never-Trumper in 2016, but now gushes over Trump and makes every excuse in the book for him. I don’t trust either of them. You can support someone and still hold them accountable, but Graham is a snake in the grass who only serves what is best for him to retain that seat, and when Trump no longer serves that purpose, he will sell him out in a second. This was a mistake by Trump.
