Newsom administration drops the ball on Medicaid deadline

California Governor Gavin Newsom is expected to be among the frontrunners for the Democrat ticket in the 2028 presidential race.

He has taken a couple of big hits over the last few weeks, and he just took another one, missing a key deadline for benefits for his residents, and it may have been the final nail in the coffin of his political career.

Mistake #1

For Newsom to win, he knows he needs to draw in more moderates and anti-Trump conservatives, and the only way he can do that is to shred some of the extremist Democrat positions, but at what cost?

Newsom started this off by having conservative pundit Charlie Kirk on his opening podcast for “This is Gavin Newsom.”

On that podcast, Newsom dropped a bombshell on the LGBTQ+ community, breaking with the party in regard to transgender athletes.

Newsom stunned Democrats, stating, “I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness. It’s deeply unfair. I’m not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you.”

Mistake #2

Newsom has been dissing his party as of late, telling people that you not only need to “make noise,” but you also have to “make sense,” something Democrats do not do much of lately.

Newsom appeared on “Real Time” with Bill Maher, where he completely betrayed the Democrat Party, which once again has a severe case of TDS going on (all you needed to do was listen to Senator Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) marathon filibuster speech to see that.).

To that point, Newsom stated, "The Democratic brand is toxic right now. We had a high watermark two weeks ago, and that was a CNN poll at 29% favorability. It‘s dropped in the NBC poll down to 27%.”

He later added, "Democrats tend to be a little more judgmental than we should be. This notion of cancel culture, you‘ve been living it. You‘ve been on the receiving end of it for years and years and years. That‘s real. And Democrats need to own up to that. They‘ve got to mature about this."

Mistake #3

Everything Newsom said about Democrats is true, and while it may win him some moderate voters, he will shed far more liberals, so that just about cooked him, then came an even bigger mistake.

Newsom has been so busy running around to other states to criticize Republican governors and doing his podcast that his administration missed a key deadline that will result in Medi-Cal missing out on millions of dollars in federal aid.

California had until March 31 to file the paperwork, but the day came and went, and the paperwork was never filed. Medi-Cal is already in financial trouble, with Newsom having borrowed money last year to cover billions in shortfall, and now he just missed out on free federal money.

This could be the last straw for voters in terms of backing Newsom, as he will now be forced to borrow even more in state that is financially reeling right now. All that COVID money is gone, and we are once again seeing just how badly Democrats manage states when they get the keys to the governor’s mansion.
