REPORT: Stefanik strongly considering run for NY Governor

It is no surprise that Donald Trump is battling with New York Governor Kathy Hochul, but someone has just joined this fight.

Reports broke on Wednesday that Rep. Elise Stefanik, who had her name pulled as the UN Ambassador, is considering a run for governor of New York.

War of Words

In February, Hochul and other governors attended a meeting at the White House with Trump.

While Trump’s battle with Maine’s governor got all the headlines, Trump and Hochul also apparently had words over the Manhattan congestion tax, with Hochul reportedly telling Trump, “I control the judges.”

Hochul’s office completely denied that ever happened, stating, “Governor Hochul has never said this, or anything similar, to President Trump or anyone. The Governor respects the independence of the judiciary, has never attempted to interfere in ongoing cases, and does not have any role to play in the judicial process, nor did she ever say that she did.

“Someone must have completely misheard the governor during this conversation, or they’re purposefully lying to advance a political agenda.”

Stefanik Gets Involved

Wednesday was a big day for Stefanik in terms of the news cycle.

First, there was a report that Stefanik blasted New York schools’ “gender-expansive” policies and warned the schools in her state that government funding could be at stake if they do not change these DEI programs, even if they are now being run under a different name.

She posted, “The Saratoga Springs Board of Education is DEFYING President @realDonaldTrump ’s Executive Order by allowing biological males into girls’ sports and locker rooms.

“This blatant rejection of President Trump’s executive order puts federal funding of our students in jeopardy. As the proud Representative for #NY21 and a mom, I will ALWAYS fight to protect our children and hold out-of-control school boards accountable.”

Big Announcement

That was bombshell number one, but bombshell number two I found far more interesting, especially because Stefanik will have all of MAGA behind her and perhaps some Democrats sick of the status quo in New York.

Stefanik fired a missile at Hochul after a new poll came out showing her support crashing among voters, stating, "This latest bombshell polling proves what every New Yorker already knows: that we must FIRE Kathy Hochul in 2026 to SAVE NEW YORK. Hochul is the Worst Governor in America and it’s not even close.”

This sparked rumors that she was considering a run, which were only exacerbated after Trump posted to Truth Social, “Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is GREAT!!"

This is all rumor right now, and Stefanik has not even hinted that she is going to run, but the rumors in the backrooms are that Trump and his allies are pushing her towards running, which would allow a Republican to snatch up her seat in the 2026 election, while Trump could offer her a different position in the administration if she lost the gubernatorial election. I think New York could be ripe for the taking right now, and we may not get a better chance to a Republican in the mansion, so why not go for it with one of the more high-profile Republicans in the state who was the full backing of Trump?
