State Department pushes back after China UN speech

The battle of wits continues between President Donald Trump and President Xi of China.

The two countries have been trading raised tariffs, countering stories in the media about talks, and now China is calling the United States a bully during a recent UN meeting.

China Raises Tariffs

When Trump initially raised the tariffs against China, the communist nation responded by increasing its tariffs to 125%, calling Trump’s tariff war a “joke.”

As this tariff war went on, the stock market started to plunge by record amounts, creating panic around the country and world.

If the United States’ economy crashes, the world’s economy crashes; that is just how it works.

While Trump pretended to have leverage, China is holding all the cards, more specifically in terms of rare earth minerals and medicine, which China recently proved it is not afraid to use in this fight.

Trump Says Talks Taking Place

This week, Donald Trump stated that the United States is now in talks with China regarding the tariffs, and the talks are going well.

Trump stated, “We may reveal it later, but they had meetings this morning, and we’ve been meeting with China.”

The ink on the paper was not even wet when Beijing pushed back against that claim.

Chinese officials stated, “At present there are absolutely no negotiations on the economy and trade between China and the U.S. If the U.S. really wants to resolve the problem ... it should cancel all the unilateral measures on China.”

You Are a Bully

On top of all this, China bashed the United States during a recent UN meeting, calling the United States bullies.

Chinese U.N. Ambassador Fu Cong stated, "Under the guise of reciprocity and fairness, the U.S. is playing a zero-sum game, which is essentially about subverting the existing international economic and trade order by means of tariffs, putting U.S. interests above the common good of the international community and advancing hegemonic ambitions of the U.S. at the cost of the legitimate interest of all countries.”

The State Department immediately pushed back, stating, "China continues to contradict itself; while claiming to support open markets, it dumps artificially low-priced goods into the global economy with exports, steals intellectual property, and implements unfair trade practices. China claims to be a developing country, while it simultaneously weaponizes its donor status and development projects to bully developing Member States."

As I stated in another report, Trump took his swing, and he missed. I hate to admit it, but China holds the cards here, largely in part to Democrat policies put in place over the Obama and Biden administrations. We are on a clock in terms of going past the point of no return, so Trump needs to figure out a way to fix this, and, hopefully, save face at the same time. If China is smart, it will work with Trump here because if our economy crashes, China’s will as well.
