Trump says no loopholes to run again
When Donald Trump first suggested running for a third term to use a loophole to hold the office again, I was very outspoken about my opposition to it.
Thankfully, he just killed that narrative.
There are methods
During an interview in March with NBC, Trump stated that there were “methods” of regaining the Oval Office for a third term.
Again, I think this is a horrible idea on many fronts, especially with the media and Democrats portraying him as a dictator or a king.
Trump told Kristen Welker, “Well, there are plans. There are – not plans. There are methods – there are methods which you could do it, as you know.”
One of the ideas being floated at time was for JD Vance to run on the premise that he would resign the office with Trump as his vice president, allowing Trump to hold the office again, but that clearly went against the spirit of the 22nd Amendment.
Trump starts selling Trump 2028 hats
Those rumors really started to fly when the Trump Organization’s online store started to sell Trump 2028 merchandise, which, again, I thought was dishonest and despicable.
Trump loyalists may find this amusing, but I don’t. I think it is disrespectful to our Constitution and misleading people all in the name of selling a $50 hat. Mind you, many of the people buying this merchandise are probably still getting clobbered by our economy, which aggravated me even more.
When asked about running again, Trump stated, “You know, we’re very popular. And you know, a lot of people would like me to do that. But, I mean, I basically tell them, we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”
For the record, Trump’s polling has collapsed, now with the lowest approval rating in eight decades for the first 100 days in office.
No loopholes
Recently, a Time reporter asked Trump about whether he was joking about running for a third term, and Trump backed off the loophole angle to run again.
He stated, "I'd rather not discuss that now, but as you know, there are some loopholes that have been discussed that are well known. But I don't believe in loopholes. I don't believe in using loopholes."
When asked about Vance running and resigning, Trump stated, "I don’t know anything about, what, look, all I can say is this, I am being inundated with requests," which is a lie because Trump was the one who initially brought this up during his interview with Welker. That aside, I am glad he finally decided to rule out loopholes because, as I stated in my initial report on this, as conservatives, we don’t exploit the Constitution; we protect it.
I would also note that if somehow the door opened up for Trump to run for a third term, that also opens the door for Barack Obama to run for a third term, and I don’t see Trump beating him. Two terms… that is how many you get, and based on Trump’s current polling, he needs to get these wars over and the economy back on track because people are losing patience. I don’t mean to sound negative, but the clock is ticking and if we don’t hold Congress in 2026, the last two terms of this administration are going to be a nightmare, likely leading to a Democrat win in 2028, and that is simply unacceptable.
