’60 Minutes’ goes off the rails against Trump in biased segment

On April 22, 2025, Bill Owens, the executive producer of “60 Minutes,” resigned his position, kicking over desks on his way out the door.

Staffers criticized ownership upon his exit, but now “60 Minutes” just proved why journalism is becoming a lost art in this country.

The Kamala interview

If you can believe it, “60 Minutes” is up for an Emmy for the Kamala Harris interview that is at the heart of the war between Donald Trump and CBS News.

The network got caught deceptively editing the interview to make Harris look far better than her full answers would have allowed.

The network blew the whistle on itself, airing two different answers to the same question by Harris.

This led to Trump accusing the network of election interference, as well as a massive lawsuit.

The lawsuit

Trump stepped up and swung for the fences on this one, suing CBS for $20 billion, which the ownership quickly looked to settle.

Earlier this month, reports broke that Paramount Global was looking to negotiate a settlement with Trump, right around the same time that Owens decided to walk away from “60 Minutes.”

When the story broke, Turmp stated, "The case we have against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount is a true WINNER. They cheated and defrauded the American People at levels never seen before in the Political Arena.

“Kamala Harris, during Early Voting and, immediately before Election Day, was asked a question, and gave an answer that was so bad and incompetent that it would have cost her many of the Votes that she ended up getting. It was a disastrous answer!"

Rogue segment

Correspondent Scott Pelley, who blasted Paramount after Owens stepped down, did another anti-Trump segment, comparing Trump to a mob boss.

Pelley pointed to Trump’s recent orders to pull the security clearances of several law firms how had either worked on J6 cases or assisted Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, stating, “The fact is that these law firms are being told, ‘If you don’t play ball with us, maybe somethin’ really bad will happen to you.’”

Marc Elias, a never-Trumper and former partner at Perkins Coie, one of the firms being targeted by Trump, stated, “Donald Trump is the walking embodiment of everything that is wrong with the American political system.” Mind you, this is a man who worked in the Hillary campaign, which broke just about every law imaginable. He continued, “And so when Donald Trump says that I am unethical or that I am undermining his vision of America, I say, ‘Boy I must be doin’ something right.’”

The hit piece was not a surprise, but the issue here is that the show did not even try to interview anyone who could have made a case to support Trump’s actions, or at least explain them better. This was a legitimate hit piece, and it could not have come at a worse time for Paramount. Something tells me that Pelley will not be on the air much longer and the check that Paramount is going to have to write to Trump just added a few more zeroes to it.
