Florida gets the green light for Alligator Alcatraz

Governor Ron DeSantis had every reason to put a block up against Trump, but even after a humiliating loss in the 2024 primary, DeSantis was among the first GOP governors to put Trump’s policies in play.

Now, Florida is helping again by building an Alligator Alcatraz to house illegal immigrants.

Special session

As I have told you guys before, I was a big DeSantis supporter in the 2024 primary race, for many reasons.

I wanted a president who could run for two terms, not one, and I wanted someone proven, which DeSantis is, and I wanted someone who could hopefully end the toxicity in DC. I had supported Trump in 2016 and 2020, but I just wanted to change tactics.

When DeSantis went out, I thought he might hold a grudge against Trump for some of the things that were said and done during the campaign, but he was loyal to the cause, immediately calling for a special session of the state legislature to work on cracking down on immigration.

Sadly, the Republican leaders in the state pushed back, saying this was “premature” and “irresponsible.” DeSantis was livid, responding, “State and local officials in Florida must help the Trump administration enforce our nation’s immigration laws. In order to do that effectively, we are going to need legislation to impose additional duties on local officials and provide funding for those local officials.”

I have an idea

It was recently announced that Governor DeSantis wanted to build a migrant camp in the Everglades, giving it the nickname “Alligator Alcatraz.”

Instead of being bordered by water like Alcatraz, anyone trying to escape would have to risk becoming gator food in the Everglades. But DeSantis was not done.

He recently stated that they would do something similar at Camp Blanding.

He explained, “We have some capacity there. Kevin Guthrie and the Division of Emergency Management are working on that.”

It’s a go

Florida GOP Attorney General James Uthmeier just got word from the Trump administration that this project is a go.

On Monday, DHS Secretary Noem announced, “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are working at turbo speed to deliver cost-effective and innovative ways to deliver on the American people’s mandate for mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens. We will expand facilities and bed space in just days, thanks to our partnership with Florida.” And Alligator Alcatraz was given the green light to start moving forward.

Uthmeier responded, “I’m proud to help support President Trump and Secretary Noem in their mission to fix our illegal immigration problem once and for all. Alligator Alcatraz and other Florida facilities will do just that. We in Florida will fight alongside this administration to keep Florida safe, strong, and free.”

Not only is it great to see DeSantis still playing ball, but I love the fact that this project is going to create a massive meltdown on the left. I cannot wait to hear the pushback on this one. More importantly, I cannot wait to see Alligator Alcatraz open for business!
