Key member of Trump’s security detail not suspended

The assassination attempt against Donald Trump during the election cycle in Butler, PA, was a disaster on many fronts.

As an outsider, I could see the breakdowns as this was taking place, but at the time, we had no idea about what took place behind the scenes that allowed all this to play out.

Now, however, a report is breaking that one of the biggest people responsible for the failures was never held accountable.

The report

Republicans conducted an investigation into the assassination attempt, and it was not very flattering for the Secret Service.

Among other issues, the report stated that the campaign was denied extra coverage, the Secret Service mishandled credible threats, and they had inexperienced agents on Trump’s detail.

At the time of the report, nobody in the agency had been held accountable.

While the head of the Secret Service did eventually resign, it seemed like the agency itself was dismissing the breakdowns in coverage.

Suspensions announced

Last week, it was announced that six agents had been suspended in relation to the roles they played in the breakdowns in security that day.

Matt Quinn, Secret Service deputy director, stated, "We are laser-focused on fixing the root cause of the problem.

"We aren't going to fire our way out of this. We're going to focus on the root cause and fix the deficiencies that put us in that situation.

"Secret Service is totally accountable for Butler. Butler was an operational failure and we are focused today on ensuring that it never happens again."

What about him?

There is one agent who was not fired or suspended, and that was the agent that was informed about Crooks’ presence that day about 25 minutes before the young wanna-be assassin managed to fire off eight shots, one of them hitting Trump in the ear, missing his head by about an inch.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) stated, “Despite those failures, no one has been fired, and we only know what little discipline was handed out because I issued a subpoena. That’s unacceptable.”

What I saw on TV that day were agents, save one or two, who had no clue what they were doing under fire.

They were clearly not battle-tested under live fire, and the fact that they left Trump’s entire torso open on the cover and move maneuver is unforgivable. Had there been a second shooter, Trump would be dead… of that I have no doubt. So, like Paul said, why people have not been fired is unacceptable.
