Colbert brings Harris on show to tout new book

One would think that Stephen Colbert would have gotten the message that viewers are sick and tired of the partisan nature of his show.

But he clearly did not, having invited Kamala Harris on his show for the first stop in promoting her new book.

As has been typical, he fed Harris softball questions, but she once again managed to screw it up.

Come on Down

Harris was on Colbert’s show several times during the Biden administration, as well as during her campaign, of which she just wrote a book about.

Harris outlines her 107-day campaign, touting the book in an X video, stating, “What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story. My new book is a behind-the-scenes look at my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.”

Colbert has proven to be a Democrat talking head, so her appearance was no surprise to anyone.

Colbert tried to feed her nothing but softballs, but she somehow managed to flub it.

Broken System

The message from Harris is clear… 107 days was not long enough to mount a serious campaign, and if she had more time, she would have been able to do better (not likely).

Harris appeared not long after making the announcement that she would not be running for governor. That led to Colbert setting her up to announce a 2028 run, but Harris did not bite.

She stated, “Recently, I made the decision that I just, for now, I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken.

“I always believed that as fragile as our democracy is, our systems would be strong enough to defend our most fundamental principles. And I think, right now, that they’re not as strong as they need to be. And I just don’t want to, for now -- I don’t want to go back in the system. I want to travel the country. I want to listen to people. I want to talk with people. And I don’t want it to be transactional, where I’m asking for their vote.”

Missing the Softball

Colbert fed Harris a question that should have been a slam dunk, giving her the opportunity to anoint herself as the party leader, but she served up a word salad instead.

Harris responded, “I think there are a lot -- I’m not going to go through names because then I’m going to leave somebody out and then I’m going to hear about it.

“But let me just say this. I think it is a mistake for us who want to figure out how to get … through this and get out of it to put it on the shoulders of any one person. It’s really on all our shoulders.”

Harris is trying to provide a soundbite instead of an honest answer, and the American people have never bought into it. During her campaign, she talked AT voters, telling them what was best for them rather than listening to what voters were trying to tell her. Does anyone really think that at his point in her career, she is going to change? Please, Kamala, run again in 2028 because if you do, it will likely be Vance moving from the Naval Observatory to the White House.
