Pirro finally confirmed as DC US Attorney

Getting the judiciary and US attorney picks through has been slow going for the Trump administration due to Democrat blockades.

To my knowledge, Trump has only had two judicial appointments confirmed.

He is also struggling to get US attorneys approved, with Alina Habba blocked. However, Jeanine Pirro was just confirmed in DC.

Pirro nominated

Trump had nominated Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro for the DC post back in May, but her nomination, like many others, had been stalled.

Trump’s initial nominee was being blocked, so he then submitted Pirro, but her nomination would not be an easy one to get through, either.

Republicans were in love with the pick, with Senator Graham (R-SC) stating, "She is exactly the right person at the right time to take on this responsibility.”

Pirro had the resume for this position, so the argument that she was not qualified was tossed. This was about personality, and nothing more, for Democrats.

Trump presses Grassley

Senator Grassley (R-IA) has been a Trump loyalist from the outset, but he and Trump had a bit of a fallout over the slow going in regard to US attorney and judicial appointments.

Trump has never taken a shot at Grassley, a fixture in the Senate, but he went after him over this, stating, “Chuck Grassley, who I got re-elected to the U.S. Senate when he was down, by a lot, in the Great State of Iowa, could solve the ‘Blue Slip’ problem we are having with respect to the appointment of Highly Qualified Judges and U.S. Attorneys, with a mere flick of the pen.”

For the record, Grassley did not need Trump’s endorsement to win the election, and he was never down in polling. Even at his age, he was a lock to win this seat.

Grassley was not happy with Trump calling him out, as Trump’s bullying tactic appeared to have backfired in this case.

Finally Confirmed

Pirro managed to squeak by just before Trump lost his mind over the Democrat blockade, telling Senator Thune (R-S.D.) to walk away from any deal he was making with Schumer.

She passed with a 50-45 vote, now confirmed for the post she had been serving on an interim basis since May.

Democrats were livid, with Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) stating, "She’s an election denialist, recklessly peddling President Trump’s Big Lie despite even her own Fox News producers and executives warning her to reel it in.”

That is rather ironic coming from a party that still insists Hillary won in 2016 and Al Gore beat George Bush in his election. All Trump did in 2020 was use the playbook that originated with the Democrat Party. While I have expressed concerns about some other nominees by Trump, I have zero issue with Pirro, and the real reason Democrats are fuming is because they know the games are now over in DC.
