The Atlantic editor comes clean about crime in DC

As everyone knows by now, Donald Trump ordered the federalization of DC to help reduce crime.

Democrats went nuclear, claiming that crime rates were down and the city was turning things around.

Those stats are now being called into question, and the situation for Democrats is not being made better by liberals who are giving personal experiences to back Trump’s play.

Sexual Assault

You guys know I love making references to “The Wire” when we start talking about Democrat cities and crime. This is really life imitating art, in my opinion, as the police on the show were juking stats, manipulating the numbers, to make crime stats look better than they actually were.

In this case, Anna Giaritelli, a homeland security reporter with the Washington Examiner, revealed that she was assaulted in broad daylight, but the police did not even want to report her crime.

She explained, “Just one block from my apartment building’s entrance, I was attacked by a large man well over six feet tall. He charged at me for a reason that I still do not understand. In broad daylight and on well-traveled 2nd Street NE next to Union Station, I fought to get away as he sexually assaulted me.

“If it had not been for others in the vicinity, including a construction worker named Donny who heard my screaming and ran to my rescue, I don’t know if I would be here today.”

Investigation Launched

The DOJ has since launched an investigation to see if the numbers have been doctored.

Trump posted to Truth Social, "D.C. gave Fake Crime numbers in order to create a false illusion of safety.

"This is a very bad and dangerous thing to do, and they are under serious investigation for so doing!"

I will say this… even if the DC reporting is accurate, and crime is down, just compare that to numbers from a decade ago, and tell me if you think DC is on the right track. Crime is down compared to last year, but the numbers are still astronomically high.

Serious Crime Issue

While the popular areas of DC may have been made safer, take it from Jeffrey Goldberg, editor at The Atlantic, overall, the city is still not safe.

He stated, “I don’t want to downplay — there’s a serious crime issue in the District of Columbia, especially in poorer areas. But the question is, the militarization of that.”

I don’t like the military being involved because I think it is really bad optics. I was not even for the federalization of the city, as I think a partnership would have worked better than federalization.

Having said that, something had to be done, and I completely understand why Trump went this route. Why bother offering a helping hand if you know it will get slapped away? At some point, the president just has to take the heat and do what he believes is right, and I think that is what Trump did here.
