Top Bondi aide leaves DOJ

Attorney General Pam Bondi has been on thin ice virtually from day one. When she was appointed, I applauded the decision, but she has made some missteps along the way that have aggravated Trump supporters.

With reports out there that Trump is growing tired of having to defend her, a top aide just left, and I am wondering if this is the beginning of the end.

Move now

Bondi has a rather impressive resume, but she was set up for failure when she took this job, and I don’t mean that as a sleight to Trump or Bondi.

There were clearly politically motivated attacks against Trump that needed to be investigated and held accountable, but any prosecutions on this front would make Bondi look like Trump’s puppet.

This was only made worse when Trump started to voice frustrations over these individuals still not facing justice.

For instance, only a few days ago, Trump posted to Truth Social, “We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”

The Epstein files

Amid all of this, there was the mishandling of the Epstein files.

Bondi made it sound like she had an Epstein client list on her desk, but then she and FBI Director Kash Patel announced there was no client list.

When the files were not released, MAGA blew up, going after Bondi directly, and Trump was forced to come out and defend her repeatedly.

It now seems pretty clear that Trump is growing tired of constantly defending her, so good job or not, once Trump gets in that mindset, he may make her fall on her sword just to kill the narrative.

Time to go

When a top aide leaves after only a few months in office, that is not a good sign. Bondi’s Chief of Staff Chad Mizelle just announced that he is leaving the administration with the oldest excuse in the book, to spend more time with family.

That is the excuse that is always given when someone is jumping a sinking ship, and my money says that is how Mizelle views the DOJ right now.

After the news broke, Bondi stated, “[Mizelle] served this Department with professionalism, sound judgment, and dedication. As Chief of Staff, Chad played a central role in coordinating the Department’s operations, ensuring its resources were aligned and our efforts were carried out with integrity and efficiency. His counsel strengthened our work to advance justice and protect the American people. I am grateful for his service and friendship.”

I would really like to be wrong here because I truly do like Bondi, and I think it took guts to go after all these people who went after Trump. But like I said, she was more or less put into a no-win situation, so once these prosecutions are done, don’t be surprised to see Bondi move on.
