Trump goes all-in on Ukraine
There was a time when it looked like Trump was going to cut Ukraine loose.
Now, however, after Putin started playing games, Trump has had a change of heart.
He is not only looking to give Ukraine more aid, but Trump is giving Ukraine permission to start doing long-range strikes inside Russian territory.
Going to Cut Funding
When Biden was in office, Ukrainian President Zelensky was using the Biden administration like an ATM for his supplies.
Biden has more or less given Ukraine a blank check with zero accountability for the aid it was receiving.
While campaigning, Trump had stated, “He just left four days ago with $60 billion, and he gets home, and he announces that he needs another $60 billion. It never ends.”
He added, “I will have that settled prior to taking the White House as president-elect.”
Well, Trump did not have it settled, and now it appears that we are going to be funding this war for a long time.
Holding It Back
After taking office, Trump ordered the aid to be frozen because he was upset with Zelensky, and he wanted to put pressure on Ukraine to sign a peace deal.
When Zelensky said he believed that they were nowhere near a peace agreement, Trump went off, responding, “This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!”
Vance added, “A lot of our European friends puff him up,” Vance said. “They say, you know, you’re a freedom fighter. You need to keep fighting forever. Well, fighting forever with what? With whose money, with whose ammunition and with whose lives?”
Zelensky would later qualify his comments, but the damage was done.
A Reversal
Putin has been leading Trump on, and after several violations of NATO airspace, Trump has hit his breaking point, so he has had a full reversal in terms of his support for Ukraine.
Trump is now working with Zelensky to provide more aid, as well as telling him that he can start to conduct long-range missile strikes inside Russian territory, which is really going to raise tensions.
Trump has also encouraged NATO countries to shoot down any Russian assets that violate NATO airspace, and while I agree, this could lead to the next World War if anyone acts on that request.
A few months ago, I thought peace was right around the corner. Now, at the very least, the faucet is being turned back on, and we could find ourselves in a World War if Russia gets too frisky. This is a thorn in the side that just won’t go away for Trump.
