Bondi furious over lenient sentence in Kavanaugh attempted assassination case
I think most of us would agree that the assassination attempt against Justice Kavanaugh was, at least in part, inspired by the rhetoric being tossed around by Democrats about the conservative justices on the Supreme Court.
In this case, many of us thought that the judge would look to set an example to deter future attacks.
That, however, did not happen, and Attorney General Pam Bondi is furious.
The Plot
In June 2022, Nicholas John Roske was in the area of Justice Kavanaugh’s home with the intent of killing him.
The plan was to kill Kavanaugh, then turn his gun on himself and commit suicide.
According to the reports at the time, Roske was upset over the leaked Supreme Court ruling that would overturn Roe v. Wade.
He was also upset over the school shooting in Uvalde, and reports that the Supreme Court was going to have an upcoming ruling in favor of the Second Amendment.
Turning Himself In
Roske reportedly called his sister and told her what he was doing, and she somehow convinced him to turn himself in to the police rather than follow through with the threat.
Roske did call 9-1-1, telling the police that he was suicidal, armed, and had traveled from California to kill Kavanaugh.
Roske reportedly told the operator, "I'm standing now, but I can sit, whatever. I want to be fully compliant."
Police were called to the scene, and Roske was still on the phone with the operator. He followed all directions and was taken into custody without incident.
Take It Easy
Roske has since stated that he identifies as a woman, and Judge Deborah Boardman, a Biden appointee, bought into the whole sham. The DOJ was looking for a sentence of at least 30 years, but Judge Boardman followed the defense recommendation for an eight-year sentence.
Mike Davis, a conservative lawyer and strategist and former chief counsel for nominations to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, responded to the ruling, "Maryland U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman—a Biden appointee—is a national disgrace. She only sentenced to 8 years, instead of 30, someone who attempted to murder Justice Kavanaugh and his family in their home. Make no mistake: Today’s Democrats want conservatives killed."
AG Pam Bondi responded, “The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a disgusting attack against our entire judicial system by a profoundly disturbed individual. [The DOJ] will be appealing the woefully insufficient sentence imposed by the district court, which does not reflect the horrific facts of this case.”
Bondi can appeal, but I doubt it will change anyone’s mind, especially if the appeal goes before liberal judges. It’s sickening, really, but it just seems to be the way things are these days. As Davis stated, and I have stated many times, I truly think this is what Democrats want to see.
