Pelosi can’t explain how CR is not ‘clean’
In order to keep the government open, the GOP wanted to present a “clean” continuing resolution (CR), which was, in essence, the same bill the Democrats signed off on during the last CR.
Democrats wanted funding for healthcare, claiming that the subsidies left out of the budget for Obamacare would cripple Americans next year.
Well, the GOP gave them the subsidies, and they still declined to pass the CR, so now it is all-out war.
The Clean CR
The biggest problem with the Democrats' request is that they want money back for health care that was paying for non-citizens, and the GOP is not going to give it to them, no matter what.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated, “Democrats – who once claimed that shutdowns would be ‘dangerous,’ ‘disastrous,’ and ‘self-inflicted harm’ to seniors, veterans, servicemembers, families, and the economy – are now actively trying to force one over policies completely unrelated to government funding.
“Democrats must stop using lies to manufacture a shutdown and do what’s right for the American people by voting to keep the government open.”
The CR is separate from all this other nonsense, which is generally why the GOP caved when Dems were in charge and never really fussed about it.
Digging In
Democrats believe they are on the right side of this fight, and to be honest, recent polling is not good for the GOP, but both sides are holding firm.
Dems are giddy over the fact that polling has swung, with a leadership memo on the subject reading, “Voters continue to blame Trump and Republicans more than Democrats for the shutdown.”
All this does is show that Democrats are more interested in political points than they are in getting people back to work.
If they were really worried about healthcare premiums and unpaid workers, they would have signed off on the one-year extension, signed the CR, then gone to the bargaining table on everything else.
Can’t Explain
Democrats continue to say the CR was not clean, but yet they cannot explain how it's not clean.
During an appearance on CNN this week, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was asked that very question, and she responded, “First of all, it isn’t a clean CR.” At this point, Dana Bash interrupted her to get her to say how it was not a clean bill.
Pelosi then ranted, “It’s not a clean CR, there’s no reason to go into that. The point is Democrats who created Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, all of that are now being asked ‘reject that so we can give a tax cut to the rich.’ We’re not doing it. And it isn’t a question of well let’s come back together so we can discuss it. That isn’t going to happen. They had that chance. Now they just have to open government with it as a stipulation.”
That is the problem with the media today, as they just allow the Democrats to ignore meaningful questions, then rant with a bunch of lies. Sadly, I now think this shutdown will go into next week, if not longer, as I don’t see Trump breaking, and as long as polling favors Democrats, they will hold out.
