Mamdani says he would arrest Netanyahu if he comes to New York City
As we inch closer to election day in New York City, Zohran Mandani continues to make his life a bit more difficult.
The United States does not recognize the International Criminal Court (ICC), but Mamdani does.
With the ICC having issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2024, Mamdani stated that if the PM came to his city and he were mayor, he would order him to be arrested.
The Warrant
The ICC issued the warrant on November 21, 2024, having stated, “Allegedly responsible for the war crimes of starvation as a method of warfare and of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts from at least 8 October 2023 until at least 20 May 2024.”
The Biden administration immediately came out to condemn the charges, but not all Democrats were buying into that idea.
The far left in the party still believes that Netanyahu committed war crimes, which is utterly ridiculous when you look at the facts.
Netanyahu responded as well, stating, "The antisemitic decision of the international court in The Hague is a modern Dreyfus trial, and it will end the same way."
He Will Be Arrested
I have to question if any police would actually follow the order to arrest Netanyahu, but we may soon find out if he wins this election.
When asked about arresting the PM on that warrant, Mamdani responded, "I’ve said that this is a city that believes international law, and this is a city that wants to uplift and uphold those beliefs.”
He was then told the US does not recognize this warrant, to which he responded, "The Criminal Court, however, has issued a warrant for the arrest of Benjamin Netanyahu, as it has for Vladimir Putin. I've said that I believe that we should uphold arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court and that we would… do so only in abiding with all of the laws in front of us."
I just cannot help but wonder how the Jewish residents of New York City feel about that. I cannot imagine they are happy, and considering NYC has the largest contingent of Jewish residents in the world, that cannot be good for him.
Cuomo Getting Ready
As I am writing this report, Mamdani and Cuomo are getting ready to have their debate, and I would imagine this will be part of the attacks that Cuomo will launch.
Andrew Kirtzman, a longtime communications strategist, says we can expect Cuomo to come out firing, explaining, “Cuomo will be working feverishly to throw Mamdani off balance and expose him as the radical he says he is.
“But I have yet to see Mamdani get tripped up on anything significant this campaign -- he’s phenomenally fast on his feet.”
GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa will also be on the stage, and a lot of people are mad at him for not bowing out, but as I have stated before, I cannot blame him for staying in. He is the elected candidate from a major party, so I appreciate him wanting to take his shot. If you want to blame anyone, blame Cuomo for running as an Independent or the NYC GOP for not taking the race seriously and wooing a big name to come and run.
