Joy Reid rant over Trump’s new ballroom filled with mistruths

The entire left has become obsessed with the White House ballroom.

Some Democrats are calling for the demolition of it once they get back into the White House, others are calling for it to be renamed after Obama (the name of the ballroom has not been revealed), and then there is Joy Reid.

Reid went completely mental over the ballroom, only she appeared to fail to do her research before posting her video.

Unhinged Rant

Reid was recently fired by MSNBC amid massive staffing cuts, but many of us believe it was because of her unhinged rants about conservatives, as well as the fact that she often stretched the truth, and that is being nice.

In her video, she stated, “We are in the middle of a government shutdown. We supposedly do not have any money that’s available to extend the subsidies to your healthcare.

“We don’t have that money, but somehow we have all kinds of extra coins available to get two private planes for Kristi Noem and her staff to use to try to purchase buildings in Chicago for ICE to use because nobody will let them use the bathroom or eat in their establishments … We had the money to do this to your White House.

“But no money for you. No money for food stamps, people are gonna run out of food stamps, those are not gonna be renewed. It’s gonna create a crisis of hunger across this country.”

The Money

First, her concerns about the funding for the ballroom are unfounded, as this is being privately funded by Trump, donors, and some major companies.

And for the record, these are not all “right” donors and groups, as some of those footing the bill for the White House are Apple, Hard Rock International, Comcast, HP, and T-Mobile.

Trump is also putting up settlement money from a lawsuit to help fund the ballroom.

Everyone is acting as though the White House has never been renovated or that the renovations were not publicly funded, and both have happened repeatedly throughout history.

The East Wing

The East Wing was first constructed in 1902 by President Theodore Roosevelt, then called the East Terrace. It was constructed to serve as a visitor’s entrance to the White House.

In 1942, the East Terrace was transformed into the East Wing as we knew it before the demolition. The expansion was primarily done to serve as cover for the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC), which is the presidential bunker that is used in emergency situations.

There were other small modifications made to the Wing over the years, but nothing as extensive as the 1942 expansion. I would also note, however, that we have seen multiple renovations done to the White House, virtually all of them privately funded, including Obama’s renovation of the tennis courts to a basketball court.

Point being, this is nothing to be upset about and in my opinion, it is a much-needed renovation for the White House. I would also bring up one more point, that being that the bunker itself was likely in need of some upgrades. My opinion, the ballroom is being used as cover to update the presidential bunker, which is why I think the initial estimate soared so significantly after the fact. I believe that when Trump decided to move forward, the idea was broached about updating the bunker, which likely would have created the need to demolish the entire East Wing for full access to the bunker.
