Sen. Gallego: Trump strikes on drug boats is murder

Well, I had stated last week that it was only a matter of time before Democrats started going after Trump regarding the strikes against alleged cartel drug boats. It is now officially a “thing.”

Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) just brought it up during an interview on NBC, where he hit Trump and numerous subjects, including, of course, the ballroom

The ballroom outrage

Gallego had first suggested renaming the ballroom after Barack Obama to get under Trump’s skin, but that is the childish nature of politics today.

Then he stated, “This is a distraction. First of all, he should not have done that. It is the people’s house number two. Where is the president? He’s focusing on the ballroom. He’s focused on everything, but he’s not focused on what’s happening right now. Inflation still high. People can’t buy what they need to buy. Energy still high. We have turf wars that are being caused because he feels icky and feels bad about someone talking bad about him in a commercial. And inflation is about to deliver 24 million Americans. And that’s what he cares about.

“This is Marie Antoinette talking about let them eat cake while Americans are struggling right now. So what I would like to do is to focus on this, to make sure that we could actually get costs down. People can actually make, you know, a good standard living right now and be able to pay what they need to survive instead of in focus on all these little projects which aren’t really bringing anything to the Americans.”

Can we not do two things at once? And the ballroom itself has nothing to do with the current budget situation because the ballroom is being privately funded.

It’s murder

Gallego then addressed the drug cartel boat bombings, accusing Trump of murder.

When Gallego was asked if these strikes are legal under international law, as Trump maintains, he responded, “No. It’s murder. It’s very simple. If this president feels that they’re doing something illegally, then he should be using the Coast Guard. If this is an act of war, then you use our military, and then you come and talk to us first. But this is murder. It’s sanctioned murder that he is doing that. It’s very simple for someone like him to talk about killing people or doing something in the name of war; he’s never actually served, he has never actually pulled a trigger.

“And it’s very dangerous what he’s doing, both to our international relations and to our friends in South America, and to these men and women who have to make these calls. The president has zero understanding about the responsibility someone has when it comes to make life-and-death decisions. It’s disgusting what he’s doing.”

I love the idea of using our military to hit these cartels, but without it being approved by Congress, Trump has opened himself and anyone involved in these operations to possible charges. Trump had better hope the GOP holds Congress because if they don’t, we are definitely going to see another impeachment hearing. And it will be much worse once Trump leaves office if Dems win, as they will surely have their DOJ refer Trump for charges on this.

Join the party

Dems love to pile it on, and that is what Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) did. While Gallego was on NBC, Murphy was on CNN spitting venom at Trump. When Jake Tapper asked him about the private donation to help pay the military, he responded, “Well, I think one of the reasons that President Trump is refusing to negotiate is because he likes the fact that the government is closed, because he thinks he can exercise king-like powers.

“He can open up the parts of the government that he wants. He can pay the employees who are loyal to him. I mean, this is a leader who is trying to transition our government from a democracy to something much closer to a totalitarian state. And so, this is part of what happens in totalitarian states — the leader of the regime only decides what things get funded and what don’t, often, in coordination with their oligarch friends.

“So I just don’t want to live in a world in which Donald Trump and a handful of billionaires decide which part of government works and which don’t.”

If Dems were in office and $300 million was donated for a new ballroom and another $130 million had been donated to pay our troops, whoever was in office would be a hero. But since it’s Trump, well, it is the worst thing in the world. That is the reality of today’s political climate.
