Trump says he is sure he cannot run for third term

Donald Trump loves to poke Democrats, especially in regard to running for a third term. Even though Trump had more or less settled this issue before, he and some of his allies continue to poke the bear, so the media will not let it go.

Again, Trump clarified that he would not be running, even ruling out something he claimed would be “too cute” and likely to upset voters.

The Cheney meltdown

The idea that Donald Trump would never leave office again if elected has been beaten to death, but my favorite on this front is former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).

Somehow, the daughter of the man who started a war so his boss could stay in power became the savior of the country on this front.

During a 2023 interview, for instance, when she was asked if Trump would try to remain in power after his term was up, she responded, "There's no question.”

She then warned, “A vote for Donald Trump may mean the last election that you ever get to vote in. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote against the Constitution."

Bannon stirs the pot

Steve Bannon has become someone who likes to say things to stir the pot, and he gets under the skin of Democrats the moment he opens his mouth.

He is not someone I take seriously any longer, but he is entertaining.

He recently stated that there is a plan in place to keep Trump in the White House for 2028. I don’t understand why he would say this, knowing it would create an issue for anyone outside of the diehard MAGA Trump base.

Yet, he stated, "Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that.” He continued, "At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is. But there is a plan."

That would be too cute

During Trump’s trip to Asia, he held a brief gaggle and was asked again about possibly running for office in 2028.

He responded, “I have my highest poll numbers that I've ever had, and, you know, based on what I read, I guess I'm not allowed to run. So, we'll see what happens.” He continued, “I would say that if you read it, it's pretty clear. I'm not allowed to run. It's too bad, but we have a lot of great people.”

When asked about the alleged plan to have JD Vance run, and if he wins, step down to allow Trump to be president, Trump responded, “I’d be allowed to do that. But I wouldn’t do it. It’s too cute. I think the people wouldn’t like that. It wouldn’t be right.”

Even saying that aggravates me a little bit, actually, as he would be looking to exploit an alleged loophole in the Constitution (my legal friends do not believe it would stand up anyway). Regardless, I am 99.9% sure that Trump will not be running, but he just keeps tossing out little pieces of thread for Democrats and the media to pull on.
