Trump appears ready to dig in to break Obamacare

I truly believe that had the GOP come up with a plan for a one-year extension early on, Trump would have supported that move by the GOP to end the shutdown.

Democrats balked at the idea of putting a one-year extension on the floor, but now Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has flipped, saying he will sign off on the continuing resolution if the GOP gives them the extension.

Well, Trump just told the GOP to divert all Obamacare money to the American people so they can get more affordable insurance.

The Plan

When Schumer first introduced his plan, I swore he had been reading my reports over the last few weeks because it was exactly as I had recommended.

He stated, "Democrats are ready to clear the way to quickly pass a government funding bill that includes healthcare affordability.

"Leader Thune just needs to add a clean, one-year extension of the [Obamacare] tax credits to the CR so that we can immediately address rising healthcare costs. That's not a negotiation. It's an extension of current law, something we do all the time around here."

I wanted the GOP to put this out there two weeks ago because I was convinced that if they did, the Dems would turn it down since it was not a permanent extension. But it would have put Dems on the record for turning it down. I believe they missed a huge opportunity by not doing it.

Nonstarter

With Democrats being the ones to recommend this, I was not surprised at all to see the GOP reject the plan. And to be clear, it is not that I wanted to extend Obamacare. This was about getting Democrats on the record rejecting a one-year extension.

After Schumer suggested the extension, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) stated, “It’s terrible. The five largest health care companies in America have had a 1,000 percent increase in their stock prices since 2010. We’re flooding these people with money that’s creating inflation.

“The program is broken, and I’m not going to keep giving hundreds of billions of dollars to insurance companies.”

I expect most Republicans to dig in on this at this point. Like I said before, at this point, they have nothing else to lose, so why bother giving in on anything?

Trump's Done

Trump is now digging in, and I can't blame him, telling the GOP to scrap everything.

He posted, "I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over."

I completely agree and believe this plan was initially put in place to get the country headed toward a single-player system. They literally broke our healthcare system to force us this way.

The problem is that the GOP has not come up with any plan to counter it, so Obamacare has remained in place. This is their chance. Come up with a real plan and obliterate this monstrosity that has sent healthcare costs through the roof.
