Friction between Biden and Obama camps
Joe Biden does not like to be crossed by anyone, let alone his allies.
When Barack Obama worked against Biden to have him withdraw from the election, he clearly took it personally.
There are now reports surfacing that these two are not even speaking to each other.
Best Buddies
I still remember the day in 2019 for National Best Friends’ Day, when Biden posted a picture of buddy bracelets for him and Obama.
He captioned it, "Happy #BestFriendsDay to my friend, @BarackObama."
Even former Obama adviser David Axelrod could not believe the post, "This is a joke, right?" It was not a joke, and Biden got roasted online after making the post.
I think it is safe to say that Joe will not be making that post ever again.
Joe Needs to Go
After the presidential debate, Obama was rumored to be working behind the scenes with Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to replace Biden in the election.
Biden eventually caved to the pressure, but he went against their desires by immediately endorsing Harris, which more or less ended any hopes Democrats had of running another open primary for the nomination.
Reports at the time found that Biden was furious with his closest allies, all of whom went against him in the race.
Obama tried to temper the betrayal, writing, "Joe Biden has been one of America's most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we've also been reminded -- again -- that he's a patriot of the highest order.”
Not Speaking to Each Other
ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl just reported that Biden and Obama were both at Café Milano in D.C. at the same time; however, they did not engage with each other at all.
Karl was asked about the interaction and the state of their friendship, and he responded, "Really bad. Really bad. Biden and the people around him very much blame Barack Obama for the effort to push Biden out of the campaign."
I have never actually bought into the idea that Obama and Biden were friends, as I firmly believe Obama only used Biden to win the older white vote among undecided voters and moderates.
I think it is fair to say Biden is no longer in the “inner circle” among establishment Democrats, which will make the upcoming election cycle interesting. I would be very surprised if anyone solicits an endorsement from Biden, as it just seems like most Democrats just want him to go away.
