Johnson pushes back on idea he was on vacation during the shutdown

When the Democrats voted to block the continuing resolution (CR) from being passed, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) announced that the House was shutting down until the funding was restored.

Democrats regularly accused Johnson of going on vacation, even though he was in DC most of the time working on uniting the caucus.

Now, Johnson is pushing back, calling out Democrats for lying about it.

House is shut down

Johnson was adamant that if the Democrats wanted to play games with the CR, there would be no other legislation passed in the House.

He stated, “We will come back, and get back to legislative session, as soon as the Senate Democrats turn the lights back on.

“That’s the fact. That’s where we are.”

The House was closed, and that included blocking a Rep.-elect from Arizona who had just won a special election from taking her seat. Of course, that person also would serve as the final signature needed for the Epstein discharge petition, which is what Democrats blamed the House closure on.

Fake news

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) tried to get voters upset with the GOP and Johnson by saying they were treating this like a vacation, but that was not the case.

At the time, he stated, “Yes, I mean, this is an extraordinary thing. It's unbelievable. Members of the House Republican Conference are upset and perplexed that their leadership has them on vacation.

“The last day the House was in session was September 19. Republicans got out of town before sundown, and we haven't seen them back in Washington since. This is extraordinary.”

Speaker Johnson has finally responded.

Not on vacation

If I thought Johnson was out of line, you guys know I would say it, but the man was clearly working throughout the shutdown, with the majority of his time being spent in DC.

To that point, he finally addressed the comments made by Jeffries, stating, “Just because we don’t have legislative voting days, it doesn’t mean Congress isn’t working. There’s this idea out there that Congress goes on vacation.

“Shannon, we haven’t — I haven’t — had a day off in two years. I mean, we work around the clock on these things. Our appropriators in particular, have been working very hard, and they’re ready to go.”

Lies… you literally cannot trust a single word that comes out of the mouth of most politicians, with Democrats spewing nothing but lies and rhetoric as of late. They lied about this, they lied about the context of the Epstein emails, and they are lying about the shutdown. They are not capable of telling the truth.
