House passes resolution of disapproval against Jeffries’ wishes

Earlier this week, we reported on a bit of a rift within the Democrat Party. It was over Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia (D-IL) announcing that he was going to retire from his seat.

It was the timing of the announcement that was the problem, as it appeared that he rigged the primary election. Even though House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) wanted the caucus to reject a resolution of disapproval, it just passed the House.

Retiring

When Garcia announced that he was going to retire, it was two days past the filing deadline in Illinois for the primary race.

Now, Garcia said he had long discussions with his family, then decided to retire so he could devote more time to his family. I would have to think that was a discussion that would have been started long before the deadline if he were serious.

He stated, “I didn’t want to be forced into going into another term if I would have won, knowing my new urgencies as it relates to my health, my wife’s health and my family responsibilities.”

With that announcement, only someone who was going to take a shot against a strong incumbent would be eligible.

Look at that

As luck would have it, the only individual who was going to take on Garcia in the primary race was his chief of staff, Patty Garcia (no relation).

So, let me understand this… he had every intention of running until recent developments, yet his chief of staff had filed to run against him in the Democrat primary race.

This is just a blatant effort to rig the race, but he thinks we are all stupid and cannot pick this little fantasy of his apart.

A fellow Democrat, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), to her credit, called out Garcia and filed a resolution in the House for his “election subversion.” There was then an effort by leadership to derail the resolution, but that failed with a vote of 206-211.

Jeffries denied

When the resolution itself was put on the floor, Jeffries, who had already expressed his desire for the caucus to reject it, was embarrassed.

The resolution easily passed with a vote of 236-183, with 23 Democrats voting in favor of rebuking Garcia, which means there are 183 members of Congress who are apparently okay with rigging a primary election, as long as it is a Democrat doing it.

Perez explained her displeasure with Garcia, stating, "One week before the filing deadline, Congressman Chuy García filed for re-election and submitted the necessary signatures for that petition. But three days before the filing deadline, he also began collecting signatures for his chief of staff, who shares his last name. Just hours before the filing deadline, Representative García's chief of staff submitted the paperwork to run with at least 2,500 signatures attached to it, and Chuy García's signature was the very first one listed in the petition."

I will die on this hill… Garcia just rigged the primary election. And again, in what is a clear-cut case, 183 Democrats decided that it was okay. Digest that and toss it back in a liberal’s face when they try to say it is the GOP trying to rig elections.
