Trump signs law authorizing release of the Epstein files
It took us a while to get here, but if all goes as expected, the Epstein files will soon be released.
After fighting for months to keep them hidden, Trump finally told the House to go ahead and pass the bill.
It passed the House with only one negative vote, was then pushed through the Senate, and Trump just stated that he signed the bill when it came across his desk.
Let’s Do It
Trump not only pushed back on the release of the files, but it also resulted in a huge brawl between Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
Eventually, Trump realized he was fighting a losing battle, and he told the House to pass it.
Trump stated, “We have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party.”
Pushing It Through
The House did pass the bill with a vote of 427-1, with Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) being the only member of the House to vote “no.”
He explained, "I have been principled ‘NO’ on this bill from the beginning. What was wrong with the bill three months ago is still wrong today. It abandons 250 years of criminal justice procedure in America.”
He continued, “As written, this bill reveals and injures thousands of innocent people -- witnesses, people who provided alibis, family members, etc.
If enacted in its current form, this type of broad reveal of criminal investigative files, released to a rabid media, will absolutely result in innocent people being hurt. Not by my vote.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) allowed the bill to get pushed through as well, stating, "I think when a bill comes out of the House 427 to one, and the president said he'd sign it, I'm not sure that amending it is in the cards.”
I Signed It
I still think there is a chance that some games get played here, but for now, Trump says the bill is signed, and the DOJ now has 30 days to turn the files over to the House.
Trump posted, "I HAVE JUST SIGNED THE BILL TO RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES! As everyone knows, I asked Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, to pass this Bill in the House and Senate, respectively. Because of this request, the votes were almost unanimous in favor of passage.
"At my direction, the Department of Justice has already turned over close to fifty thousand pages of documents to Congress. Do not forget — The Biden Administration did not turn over a SINGLE file or page related to Democrat Epstein, nor did they ever even speak about him."
The files could still be blocked if the DOJ announces an investigation, as Trump has requested, so I am not buying it just yet. Hopefully, this was not a publicity stunt and the files get released, so we can finally put this all behind us.
