Marjorie Taylor Greene decides not to run for re-election in the House
Over the last few weeks, we have seen some surprising developments for Republicans in the House.
The special election that is taking place in Tennessee for former Rep. Mark Green’s seat has suddenly turned into a coin flip, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has not only resigned but now she is at odds with MAGA, a movement of which she was once considered a leader.
Now, Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), a major ally of Trump’s in the House, has decided not to run for re-election, as his twin brother will now run for the seat in 2026.
Greene Resigns
Even though Greene and Trump were feuding, I honestly never thought it would get to the point that she felt she had to resign over it.
As loyal as she had always been to Trump, I figured the hatchet would get buried at some point, and they would make up, but it just never happened.
Then, when she announced her resignation, she decided to take a shot at Trump, stating, “Loyalty should be a two-way street, and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest.”
This was the exact opposite approach she took when she was MAGA, always demanding every Republican cower to Trump and support his agenda regardless of how they personally felt.
Snapping at MAGA
When Trump turned against Greene, she became a prime target for trolling by MAGA online, and I have no idea why she would read those comments, but she did.
Eventually, she snapped a little bit, responding to one person, “Do I have to stay until I’m assassinated like our friend Charlie Kirk. Will that be good enough for you then? Sh** posting on the internet all day isn’t fighting.
“Get off YOUR ass and run for Congress. I fought harder than anyone in the real arena, not social media. Put down your little pebbles and put your money where your mouth is.”
I was never a fan of Greene, but her assessment here is dead on regarding how she had supported Trump. Remember, she turned on Trump after he snubbed her for a cabinet position while adding people like RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, two Democrats, so I get why she is upset.
Not Running
That brings us to Nehls, who has been all-Trump, all the time, who just announced that he would not run again.
He stated, "After more than 30 years in law enforcement serving and protecting my community as a police officer, constable, Fort Bend County Sheriff, an Army veteran, and six years representing this district in Congress, I have made the decision, after conversations with my beautiful bride and my girls over the Thanksgiving holiday, to focus on my family and return home after this Congress.”
He then added, "Before making this decision, I called President Trump personally to let him know of my plans.
"President Trump has always been a strong ally for our district and a true friend, and I wanted him to hear it from me first."
The family connection will help, but once again, it is extra money that will be needed to start a candidate off from scratch rather than being able to ride an incumbent into office. Every cent is going to count in the 2026 race, so even this will hurt the party as we try to do the impossible and hold Congress in the first midterm election after a party change.
