Ilhan Omar may have known about $1 billion Minnesota fraud scheme

By now, I am sure you have heard about the massive fraud that took place in Minnesota that abused a COVID-19 relief program.

Much of that fraud took place in the Somali community, which Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) represents in her district.

She claims to have close ties to her community, so are we right to wonder if she knew about the fraud and just turned a blind eye?

No Checks and Balances

When Omar was asked about the fraud in her community, she literally blamed the system rather than the culprits.

She explained, “I think what happened is that, when you have these kind of new programs that are designed to help people, you are, oftentimes, relying on third parties to be able to facilitate.”

The lawmaker continued, “And I just think that a lot of the COVID programs that were set up, they were set up so quickly that a lot of the guardrails did not get created.”

Guardrails are only needed when you have people with nefarious intent. But let me go a bit further here and ask, who is responsible for the oversight of these programs? Would that not be our elected officials? So the fact that these guardrails were not put in place falls on elected officials, and nobody else.

What Did She Know?

That brings me to my next question because I would have to think that Omar must have seen something fishy, yet she never raised any red flags.

Bill Glahn, a policy fellow with the Minnesota-based Center of the American Experiment, is thinking along the same lines as me, stating, “[Rep. Omar] knew who these people were. People she personally knew were making tens of millions of dollars in this program.”

He later added, “She had been inside the [Safari] facility on numerous occasions and couldn’t put 2 and 2 together? Either she’s terminally naive, or knew and didn’t care.”

In my humble opinion, this woman hates this country, so I don’t doubt for a second that she knew about it and chose to ignore it.

Get Out of My Country

President Trump did not hold back on how he feels about Omar and her fellow Somalis when he addressed the fraud scandal.

He claimed that Somalia is “no good for a reason.” He then added, "I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you.”

Omar responded, “I mean, it creates fear. And there is a possible danger that a lot of the people who follow the president have exhibited violence in many cases, especially in my case, whenever he has said something about me that is derogatory or says I’m a threat to the country, I have gotten death threats.”

Not trying to be cold-hearted here, but when your community is here and stealing money from taxpayers, I have no sympathy.

I will be the first person to admit that Trump often crosses the line with his insults, but when an entire community is involved in a scandal like this, and you have a congressional member who is neck-deep in that community, you better be prepared to take the heat.
