Trump support crashing over economy as Trump fails to uphold lofty promises
During the 2024 election, I repeatedly warned about overpromising.
I have been in this game long enough to know that when you say you are going to fix something on day one, voters do not take that as hyperbole, but as a statement of fact.
There was no way Trump could fix Biden’s economy in a day, and now voters are upset, regardless of the progress Trump has made.
Biden’s Reality
Joe Biden repeatedly lied about inflation during his presidency, literally from start to finish.
Biden stated that when he took over the White House, inflation was at 9%, but it was actually 1.4%, so he was not even in the same neighborhood.
In reality, inflation peaked under Biden at 9.1%, and when he was called out on this, the Whtie House offered up some championship spin.
It stated, “The President was making the point that the factors that caused inflation were in place when he took office. The pandemic caused inflation around the world by disrupting our economy and breaking our supply chains.”
Ups and Downs
Now, when Trump took office, I warned everyone that this could get painful before it got better, and I truly think Trump has done a good job with the cards he was dealt, but he overpromised, and people are holding him accountable.
Gasoline prices have started to drop under Trump, but electricity and natural gas are up, so people are seeing higher utility bills.
Rent costs are up, so again, this is a monthly bill where Americans are seeing an increase, which does not help Trump. This is a hangover effect from Biden and his immigration policies; however, as there is a bigger demand for housing, prices start to soar.
Interest rates remain high, but again, this is a hangover from Biden, and because it is a monthly bill, Americans are holding Trump accountable for it. Same for medical bills, as premiums are soaring, and not likely to come down until Congress revamps our healthcare system.
We have also seen staples at the grocery store remain high. Eggs have gone down, but milk and beef prices remain high. Again, all this comes back on Trump because the moment he said he could fix it, he took ownership of it.
People Getting Angry
This is all fixable stuff, but Trump has to be big enough to admit he overestimated what he could do, then offer up a plan to fix it. Many of these plans are already in play, but he needs to do a better job of explaining them so people have a more realistic idea of when the relief will come.
In a new survey, 37% of Trump supporters say that their cost of living is higher and they blame it on Trump. Trump says this is all fake news and the media is poisoning them. If he takes that approach, he will be doing the same thing Biden did when he was in office… denying there is a problem.
You know what the American people want more than anything from DC? Honesty, that’s it… just tell us the truth. We are big boys and girls, and we can handle it, but we want the truth, not spin, and not outright lies.
You can fix this, Mr. President, but your ego is going to have to take a hit to make that happen. So far, Trump has not proven he is capable of allowing that to happen. For the sake of our country, I hope he changes his ways because I fear for what happens if Democrats get Congress and the White House back.
