Mamdani replicated AOC video on tips to avoid ICE
Zohran Mamdani has not been sworn in as the mayor of New York City yet, but he is already making good on his vow to fight ICE.
Mamdani just put out a video that was reminiscent of a video posted by AOC on her social media pages.
He is now offering tips on how to push back if ICE comes to the door of New Yorkers.
AOC’s video
Almost immediately after Trump took office, AOC had posted the video that created outrage on the right, to the point some were questioning if she was breaking the law.
The video featured Genia Blaser, a lawyer with the Immigrant Defense Project.
In the video, she stated, “ICE raids are political tactics, and they’re often intended to create fear. We see how ICE often uses rhetoric to criminalize immigrants, to normalize their tactics and justify what they’re doing.”
AOC had also posted, “Believe it or not, in America EVERYONE has rights,” with tips, such as “Don’t Open Your Door” unless ICE agents have a warrant signed by a judge
Homan goes nuclear
Trump border czar Tom Homan took exception to a member of Congress posting such a video, and he responded in kind.
He stated, "So, maybe AOC's gonna be in trouble now, but I need the [Office of the Attorney General] to opine on that ... impediment is impediment, in my opinion, I'm not a prosecutor, but we need some further guidance on that.”
AOC mocked Homan on social media after his outburst, and the two went back and forth for a bit before this all settled down.
That eventually fizzled out, but Mamdani just posted a video that will surely revive this battle.
The Mamdani video
It looks like Mamdani borrowed the script, reiterating many of the same points that were made by AOC in her video.
He stated, "As mayor, I'll protect the rights of every single New Yorker, and that includes the more than 3 million immigrants who call this city their home. But we can all stand up to ICE if you know your rights."
He continued, "First, ICE cannot enter into private spaces like your home, school or private area of your workplace without a judicial warrant signed by a judge. If ICE does not have a judicial warrant signed by a judge, you have the right to say, ‘I do not consent to entry' and the right to keep your door closed.’"
This will surely not sit well with the administration, so it will be interesting to see how Trump responds after the two of them were all buddy-buddy during the White House meeting. My gut tells me that lovefest is about to end. In about three weeks, the real fun begins, as Mamdani will be sworn into office on January 1, 2026, then this all becomes a reality.
