Tapper throws Crockett’s words back her during live TV interview

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), as I am sure you have figured out by now, is not one of my favorite people.

I don’t like her because she is more worried about her social media profile than she is about legislating and solving problems.

She says outrageous things for the sake of going viral, and CNN’s Jake Tapper just called her out on it.

Governor Hot Wheels

Crockett likes to say things for effect, then when she gets challenged on them, or they do not create the reaction she expected, she tries to talk herself out of a corner.

As an example, she had called Governor Greg Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels,” a shot at the governor being in a wheelchair. She then tried to explain it away when groups were outraged over her mocking a handicapped man.

She did the same thing when she said that EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin received money from Jeffrey Epstein, clearly insinuating that he received money from “that” Jeffrey Epstein.

Again, she blamed it on not having enough time, and said that Zeldin did accept money from “a” Jeffrey Epstein, just not “the” Jeffrey Epstein.

Slave Mentality

During a Vanity Fair profile piece in December, Crockett raised some eyebrows by taking a shot at Hispanic voters who voted for Trump, stating, “The immigration thing has always been something that has perplexed me about this community … It almost reminds me of what people would talk about when they would talk about kind of like slave mentality and the hate that some slaves would have for themselves. It’s almost like a slave mentality that they have."

Tapper read that direct quote to Crockett, then asked her, “Now about the time that that was published last year, around a million Latino voters in Texas were voting for Trump. Do they all have slave mentality?”

She responded, “No, and that’s not what that said at all, to be clear. It did not say that every Latino has that type of mentality. No, no, but slave, the ones that vote for people who believe in strong or Trump’s immigration policy. So, so I don’t believe that the people that voted for Trump believe in what they’re actually getting.”

Once again, she is exposing her spinning skills, but her words were pretty clear in that interview, and if I were a Hispanic voter in Texas, there is no way I could ever pull the lever for her.

Can She Win Texas

Crockett is trying to steal a Senate seat in 2026, running for the seat currently occupied by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). And she seems to think that Mamdani’s win in New York will translate to a win for her in Texas.

She stated, “Mamdani has not backed down whatsoever from his rhetoric against the president in the Oval Office. He stood — he stood there and he said what he said about him being a fascist, yet he was able to win those voters.

“So Democrats that believe the only way that you can win is by being soft and sounding like a Republican, that is not true. What people are looking for are people that are tough and are fighters and are going to fight for them.”

Living in Texas, I can tell you she does not understand the big picture. There are clearly enough liberals in Texas right now to flip the state, but it has to be a more moderate candidate that could draw in some independent and GOP voters, and trust me, Crockett is not capable of doing that. There is too much oil and cattle money in this state for someone like Crockett to win. She might make it interesting, but Texas is not going blue in the Senate just yet unless they completely drop the ball during this election cycle.
