Rep. Thompson demands Noem resignation during fiery hearing

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was on the Hill this week, and boy did she liven things up. Democrats hit her with all kinds of charges, and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) alleged that she dipped out of the hearing early on purpose.

He also demanded her resignation, but that was only a piece of what took place.

"You need to resign"

Thompson, the ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, started the hearing for the cameras, demanding that Noem resign her position.

He stated, "You have systematically dismantled the Department of Homeland Security, put your own interests above the department, and violated the law. You are making America less safe.”

Thompson continued, “So rather than sitting here and wasting your time and ours with more corruption, lies and lawlessness, I call on you to resign. Do a real service to the country and just resign. That is, if President Trump doesn't fire you first."

As I said, this was all for the cameras because these hearings have proven to be completely useless in terms of holding anyone accountable.

I have to go

When Noem arrived for the hearing, she did tell the committee that she had another meeting and would have to leave at noon.

She did leave, but then Thompson claimed she left knowing her FEMA meeting had been canceled, which her office denied. It stated that the cancellation happened roughly 30 minutes after Noem had left the hearing.

Still, Thompson stated, “I understand on good information that the FEMA Council meeting was canceled, so there was no need for her to go.”

He tried to subpoena Noem to return, but Republicans blocked him, and rightfully so. He was being overly dramatic.

The unfortunate accident

Thompson also got himself into some trouble for how he had referred to the shooting of the two DC National Guard members, which resulted in one of them dying.

In citing the shooting, he called it an “unfortunate accident,” and Noem looked like she was ready to go over the table at him, stating, “Unfortunate accident? It was a terrorist attack. He shot our Guardsmen in the head.”

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) also went after Thompson, stating, “That was a murder that took place in D.C. It was not an unfortunate incident. Those comments are f–king disrespectful. I expect better from the ranking member.”

The sad reality of this is that Democrats downplay anything that will not implicate someone from the right. A Guard member gets killed… It’s an accident. Someone calls a Democrat a bad name, and all of a sudden, their life is in danger. I mean, hey, they even downplayed the assassination attempts against Trump, so what else would we expect?
