House Democrats refuse to support Rep. Al Green’s impeachment of Trump

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) is up to his old tricks again. During Trump’s first term, Green tried to have him impeached, then he and Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) both took a shot at Trump already this term.

Green just did it again, but his fellow Democrats shut down the effort because they know it will never pass.

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI)

Now, I don’t know about you, but I have never heard of Thanedar before he tried to impeach Trump, and I read about politics every day, all day.

He has only been in office for a few years, and he decided to get his 15 minutes by impeaching Trump in April. He stated, “[Trump’s] unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act.”

That failed, so then he went after Hegseth with a brilliant speech on why Hegseth needed to be removed from his post.

He stated, “He’s incompetent. He’s, you know, violated -- he has committed war crimes. He must go.” Sounds like he has been spending time with Joe Biden.

Green is back

Green is now coming back at Trump, to the point I have lost count of how many times Greene has tried to impeach the president.

This time, he claimed, “This resolution asserts that President Trump is an abuser of presidential power who, if left in office, will continue to promote violence, engender invidious hate, undermine our democracy, and dissolve our Republic, and that he is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors.

“Article I pertains to President Trump calling for the execution of six Democratic lawmakers, all of whom are currently serving in the U.S. Senate or U.S. House of Representatives, and who previously served in the U.S. Military or in U.S. Intelligence communities.

“Article II describes how President Trump has fostered a political climate in which lawmakers and judges face threats of political violence and physical assault, has made threats and vituperative comments against federal judges, putting their safety and well-being at risk, and is undermining the independence of our judiciary.”

Can’t back you up

It did not take long for Democrats to block the effort, mostly because they know this will never pass with the GOP in charge of the House. Trump has enemies on the GOP side, but there is no way they are going to try to impeach him.

Nearly two dozen Democrats voted against the measure, and several others voted “present” rather than participating in this fiasco.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), and House Democrat Caucus Chairman Pete Agullar (D-CA) did not offer their support, taking a shot at Green and GOP leadership, citing that this is a very serious matter that requires significant research, none of which had been done to this point.

This is yet another example of how politicians waste time and money on legislation that will never pass. It’s all about headlines because now Green can fundraise over the fact that he tried to impeach Trump. It’s theater, nothing more.
