Comer declines Clinton counteroffer to subpoena

Democrats have ignored all things Jeffrey Epstein for as long as I can remember, and that is likely because of his connection to Bill Clinton. So, when Dems tried to implicate Trump, it made perfect sense that Republicans would ramp up the pressure on Bill Clinton.

It was no surprise to see House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) say he was going to call Clinton to testify under oath, which he refused to do, now making a laughable counteroffer.

Let’s Have a Chat

Late last year, Comer announced that he was going to call both Bill and Hillary Clinton to testify.

He stated, "The committee looks forward to confirming their appearance and remains committed to delivering transparency and accountability for the survivors of Epstein’s heinous crimes and for the American people.”

David Kendall, an attorney for the Clintons, responded, stating, "Former President Clinton and former Secretary Clinton welcome legitimate oversight in this matter that is grounded in fact. In that regard, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary Hillary Clinton have little to contribute to that legitimate goal, all of which can be readily submitted on paper."

This started a joust between the two parties that continues today.

Standing Up

Now, we all remember the many lectures by the Clintons, Hillary in particular, about Trump officials not wanting to testify when called before Congress.

Now that it was their turn, they balked at the idea, stating, “Every person has to decide when they have seen or had enough and are ready to fight for this country, its principles and its people, no matter the consequences. For us, now is that time.”

As far as the media was concerned, this was heroic, standing up to the bad orange man.

For some reason, all the calls to have the Trump associates jailed were not ringing through the media when it came to the Clintons doing the same thing.

The Offer

According to the report, Bill Clinton agreed to talk to Comer, but under very specific conditions. Among them, Bill wanted Comer to come to him, no other members of Congress could be privy to what they discussed, and Bill wanted to recorded transcript of the conversation. This was clearly a setup so that Bill could deny whatever Comer claimed they talked about, and Comer, rightfully, declined.

He responded, “I have rejected the Clintons’ ridiculous offer. The Clintons’ latest demands make clear they believe their last name entitles them to special treatment. The House Oversight Committee’s bipartisan subpoenas require the Clintons to appear for depositions that are under oath and transcribed.

“Former President Clinton has a documented history of parsing language to evade questions, responded falsely under oath, and was impeached and suspended from the practice of law as a result.”

This would have all gone away had Bill and Hillary just testified, but now they are the ones responsible for dragging it out even further. For two people who claim they have nothing to hide on this front, they sure are acting like they have something to hide.
