Democrats demanding Schumer step down from leadership after GOP wins shutdown battle
It would appear that the government shutdown is about to end this week as long as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) can get the GOP caucus to back the legislation working its way through the Senate. Eight Democrats broke the party line this weekend, and the bipartisan legislation will not include subsidies for Obamacare.
Democrats in Congress are fuming, and now they want Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) gone.
We agree
There are some Democrats who live in military and government towns that need the government to open so their people are getting paid.
You can only hold out so long when your entire constituency is screaming at you that they cannot put food on the table.
That is why I am guessing Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) broke, and he was joined by Sens. Angus King (I-ME), John Fetterman (D-PA), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), and Dick Durbin (D-IL), who is the number two Democrat in the Senate.
The fact that Schumer could not even keep leadership behind him is shockingly bad for the Senate leader.
Not happy
The Democrats were holding out for one thing, which was Obamacare subsidies, and that is the one thing they did not get.
Now, I fully expect the GOP to negotiate with them once the government is reopened, but that does them little good now, as their holdout was literally for nothing.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), a rising star in the Democrat Party, fired a missile at Schumer, stating, "If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?" He further stated that Schumer "is no longer effective and should be replaced."
Schumer is still holding firm, though, stating, "America is in the midst of a Republican-made healthcare crisis -- a crisis so severe, so urgent, and so devastating for American families that I cannot support a continuing resolution that fails to address it.”
You need to go
Blue Sky is some fun reading right now, as the liberal hordes' echo chamber is fuming, and there is overwhelming sentiment to see Schumer replaced in leadership.
One user posted, “If democrats want to retain any amount of integrity they need to immediately vote out Chuck Schumer as party minority leader.”
Nina Turner, a former Ohio state official, stated, “Chuck Schumer is unable to lead the Democratic Party. Step down from leadership.”
This is about as bad as it gets for Schumer, and I just cannot imagine him winning another leadership vote. Honestly, with everyone in the party revolting against him right now, I would be highly surprised if he does not decide to retire at the end of this term, giving AOC a free run at the Senate.
