DOJ says it will pursue charges against ‘journalist’ Don Lemon
On Sunday, former CNN host Don Lemon joined a group of protesters who disrupted services at a church in St. Paul. Protesters entered the church yelling “Hands up, don’t shoot” and “ICE out.”
Don Lemon claimed he was there only to cover the event, but the DOJ sees it differently, and it is now looking to charge Lemon.
The Protest
In all my days, I never thought we would get to the point where people would disrupt religious services, but that is exactly what took place this past weekend.
Nekima Levy Armstrong, a civil rights lawyer, reportedly organized the protest to go after David Easterwood, a pastor at Cities Church, because he is the acting director of a local ICE office.
Jonathan Parnell, lead pastor at the church, was clearly shaken by the protest, stating, “We have asked them to leave, and they have obviously not left. This is unacceptable. This is shameful. It is shameful to interrupt a public gathering of Christians in worship.”
Lemon was his usual smug self, shoving a microphone in the face of Parnell to ask him questions about the protest that had disrupted services.
Pursuing Charges
Assistant attorney general for civil rights Harmeet Dhillon made it clear that Lemon will not be able to hide behind a journalistic shield on this one.
After ripping Lemon for his actions, she added, “Whenever anyone conspires to violate the protected civil rights of American citizens, the Klan Act can be used to bring a conspiracy charge.”
Lemon is now playing the race and gay cards for Dhillon going after him for the protest.
He stated, “It’s notable that I’ve been cast as the face of a protest I was covering as a journalist — especially since I wasn’t the only reporter there. That framing is telling. What’s even more telling is the barrage of violent threats, along with homophobic and racist slurs, directed at me online by MAGA supporters and amplified by parts of the right-wing press.”
FACE and KKK Acts
There are two possible ways that Lemon could be charged, as well as the other protesters at the event, that being the FACE Act or the KKK Act.
The FACE Act (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act) was passed in 1994 and prevents acts of intimidation from being used in religious worship and health services, such as abortion clinics.
The KKK Act dates back to 1871 and prevents “the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution of the United States,” which would include religious freedoms.
Let me just say this… can you imagine the outrage if MAGA walked into a black church and did something like this, and the outrage that would be taking place within the Democrat Party right now? I would not support such an act, and nor will I even attempt to justify what happened in this instance. I say go after them all with everything you have, Ms. Dhillon.
